Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has said that his country will not be a part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) unless it is given access to Pakistan's Wagah and Attari border, DNA India reported on Wednesday.

Addressing a gathering at the Vivekananda International Foundation in New Delhi, Ghani said that Kabul will restrict Pakistan's access to central Asia if it is not given access to India through the CPEC project, according to the DNAarticle.

The comment comes a week after a meeting took place between representatives of Afghanistan, China, Pakistan and the United States in Oman, in which the revival of peace talks with the Taliban was discussed.

"Sanctuaries are provided, logistics are provided, training is provided, ideological base is provided [...] Pakistan has come to a juncture and it needs to make a choice," DNA quoted Ghani as saying. "Our reaction will be determined by its [Pakistan's] choices."

According to DNA, the Afghan president also welcomed India's new role in Afghanistan as discussed in the new US policy for the region.

Ghani termed the Trump administration's South Asia strategy a "game-changer" for the region as it "recommends multi-dimensional condition-based approach for the region."

Ghani visited India just a day after US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson's surprise visit to Afghanistan.

Afghanistan enjoys a privilege to transport goods through Pakistan. Afghanistan is in no position to dictate terms. Much like Bhutan which can not dictate terms to india.

let me elaborate.

these were not his words. he was dictated
he is the president of Kabul and thats about that. he has no say or control over the affairs of the country. he is in no position to dictate terms to Pakistan on CPEC or trade when millions of Afghans that should be be in Afghanistan are still living in Pakistan since the 80s. Pakistan provides Kabul and rest of Afghanistan the access to the sea port and has been providing goods even before the recent blossoming romance with India.
Ghani has no say or access over CPEC and Pakistan can access the central asia via China and thats the essence of CPEC.

Ghani finds himself crushed between two behemoths, China and America. his target seems Pakistan (to appease Indian hosts) but he is talking on behalf of Americans and he is addressing the Chinese.
as the new peace initiative started .. Kabul and rest of Afghanistan has been blood soaked with back to back terror attacks to disrupt the peace attempts. his predecessor Karzai is very blunt about accusing America for bringing in ISIS fighters into Afghanistan. but he cant afford to say that. its about self preservation.


better diplomacy is required on Pakistani side and a joint statement from Pakistan and China might be better as gesture of goodwill offering Afghanistan to join CPEC on its free will.

How Pakistan can and will pay debt and use investment that is matter for Pakistan NOT for india. That being said, if india is so much worried about Pakistani debt and investment, india can do one of two things

1) india can invest $150 billions in Pakistan.
or
2)india can pay back $150 billions Pakistani debt.

The port is operational, but some routes needs to be constructed along the land. Check North - South Corridor which is being developed by India.

Southern Afghanistan and strategic parts bordering Iran are controlled by the Taliban's.
