What's new

NO DAMS for Pakistan!! PPP Leadership.

Agricuilturists dominate all governments. any steps again their profits will not be taken. 2-3000 acres is what many Senior politicians own , even in PTI. So nothing is going to change. No one in the current politics can do agricultural reforms.

Except the Prime Minister mentioned funding the Faisalabad agricultural research university to learn about modern method and to implement them is more important than even conserving water via drip irrigation and lining canals. (start at 49:20- 52:12)

If Imran Khan is to be taken seriously, he will have to get these rich land owners in line. that will be a big test, small farmers need to agitate for large farmers to only take their fair share.

He himself and all his top leadership is Landowners. OK Maybe not all , but there is a significant portion.

Then this would be where some brave souls would have to compile a report on who owns what land, up to and including the Prime Minister, and how much water they are suppose to be allocated, and how much they are actually allocated. Digging through the files of WAPDA, inside WAPDA officials who want to see change can expose where the most abuse is happening, and naming the big players can make it easier to expose the smaller abusers.

Now the spirit of Naya Pakistan should mean these landowners are named, the government announces water limitations and then we see who complies and who cries foul. The rules have changed, to get as many people on the side of reforms, everyone needs to be given a chance to redeem themselves. If this does not happen, small farmers and activists can expose them, relentlessly. Name and Shame. If the government doesn't want to lose trust of the masses, and this becomes a big issue, like people taking money overseas, then they will have to act. This more than building the dams will be the make or break for the Agricultural industry and the nation as a whole.

Maybe the ISI should be the brave souls to do the investigation I mentioned above. They don't have to be Brave Souls, those that dare to cross them will have to be Brave Souls, no matter who they are.

Water limitations is not a word I would use. rather metering , or equitable/reasonable water rates.
The rest, nothing is likely to change.

Anyone who opposes any development which benefits Pakistan in any way is the enemy of the motherland.

The agencies can do undercover investigations to determine all this. Screw the bureaucrats if they stand in the way. Same issue like Tax Reform.

https://dailytimes.com.pk/295026/prerequisites-for-tax-reforms/

I believe in incentiving thru equitable metering or land based rates. I dont really care if someone has 10 acres or 5000. they should pay rate according to what is appropriate to maintain the infrastructure and then a little more.
Yes there is a Water crisis, but its not of a Water shortage yet. Simple abuse and wastage and mismanagement.

These guys are getting about Rs2,40,00,000.00 from an acre. ( This is India) so If you cant pay $10 per acre, you should move over and let someone else handle it.

It actually does evaporate my dear. that's the very definition of disappearing into thin air.

The dispute of Sind is over 2 things. Some of the dams will not just store and forward, but also the stored water will be distribued into Punjab ( to expand nnn thousands of acres growing wheat). Sindh asked for a certain amount of river water + a certain amount to flow into the sea to prevent ingress of sea into Sindh areas. I will leave it to the reader to reseacrh what these amounts are. But Sindh has not been getting this water both sea flow and agriculture as per the Indus water treaty for decades.
All the people including Musharraf lied when they say that so many mega acre ft of water goes into the sea. outright lie. to find out how much water flows into the sea, you have to find annual Kotri barrage outflow ( as that the last water storage on the river.).
Once you have the numbers and can say this is why water wastage is there, you can say you can use water from dams.

Aside from building Dams, about 40% of water in the canals ( yes 40%) IS WASTED THRU LEAKAGES. How about fix those leakages.

Indus delta is small piece of land, it may as well be undersea. Water level are rising all over the world, its lost battle. Putting all of fresh water in to that is only going to delay the inevitable by few years.

80% of water comes in just 3 months, that's where Bhasha dam comes. Food security and water for 220m population is more important then indus delta which doesn't support even half a million population.

If PPP really care about indus delta then why not let go all of Sindh water in to that instead of using for agriculture in upper sindh.

Ppp it self is building around 30 small dams in sindh

That water also go to delta

Sindh is building dams for indus delta? That doesn't make sense. In Sindh only small dams can be build for local needs.

Small dams are built on feeding rivers all river by law if nature drain into main sindh river and only sindh goes directly to ocean

So they are also stopping water for delta them selves

They are managing the water that comes to them, so they can prevent floods in the summer and droughts in the winter. They expect Punjab and the other provinces to release Sindh's fair share.

I hope the Central government and the provinces keep in mind the needs of all the people.
Do what is best for yourself but also the Group.
