Mexico City, Mexico — Mexico will end the year with the marketing of more than 1.5 million vehicles, 3.3 percent less than reported in the same period of 2016, says the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA).

This is the first decrease in the industry since the economic crisis of 2009. However, despite the decrease in sales, 10 models in particular dominated the Mexican market, accounting for 39 percent of the total number of vehicles sold in the country between January and November 2017.

Of the more than 200 vehicle choices offered throughout the country, here are the top 10 best selling vehicles in Mexico for 2017.

First place was scooped by the Nissan Versa, with 83,346 units sold, representing around 6.1 percent of the total number of vehicles sold in Mexico. Mayra González, president and CEO of Nissan Mexicana, said that this model is very important in the company’s portfolio and that it is also produced at its Civac plant located in Cuernavaca, Morelos.

The second most sold vehicle in Mexico in 2017 was the NP300 truck, also known as Estaquitas of the same Japanese brand. Nearly 67,000 of these vehicles were purchased around the country during the year. It is the most sold unit in the segment of work trucks or pickups.

In third place is the Chevrolet Aveo, belonging to General Motors, of which 59,453 cars were sold. Although they renewed Mexico’s best-selling subcompact model adding two airbags and three-point seat belts, the car is still very unsafe, according to the new vehicle evaluation program for Latin America and the Caribbean LatinNCAP.

The fourth best-selling model in Mexico is the Volkswagen Vento with the commercialization of 57,441 cars with the Nissan March coming in a distant fifth with 48,836 cars purchased in Mexico in the first eleven months of the year.

The remaining positions are sixth with the Volkswagen Jetta with 41,654 units sold, the Nissan Sentrawith 38,731 and the Chevrolet Spark with 32,772. The Honda CR-V also made the list with 24,198 (the only SUV among the best sellers) and the Nissan Tsuru with 23,156.

Tsuru being discontinued in Mexico because of this crash test between a US market Nissan vs a Mexican market Nissan. http://www.autonews.com/article/201...g-mexican-veteran-tsuru-amid-safety-criticism

A car-to-car test between a 2015 Nissan Tsuru, the least expensive sedan sold by Nissan in Mexico, and a 2016 Nissan Versa, the least expensive sedan sold by Nissan in the United States.

If people think car models are built the same way in every country then they should think again.

population Canada 36M/2M=18
population US 323M/17.9M=18

1 new car each year for every 18 people seems like the magic number

Electric cars should last longer so it will be interesting to see what the number will be like in 10 years.

Sunny Diesel has a great diesel engine with a big low end torque. You will not require frequent gear change in City. You can drive the car at higher speed at relatively low RPM and there will be no turbo lag in engine which you will observe in most of the turbo charge engines.

You are looking for auspicious moment to take delivery? You'd consult a 'Panjika' and an astrologer then? I guess this is pretty common where you are.

I don't think Sunny comes with a Turbo fitted. It has a 1.5 liter diesel motor with either a manual or a CVT. The engine is a sort of older design but diesels are supposed to be reliable. Good luck with your new vehicle.

Electric vehicles *may* last longer but they have rechargeable batteries (Li-Poly these days). Those batteries wear out after a certain number of charging cycles in 5 years and they are 'super expensive' to replace.

Yes you said it right. We believe in lots of such things. If we are going to do any good work, it has to be in good muhurt. We need to see a good time to do that work. It is very important in Marriages, Inauguration of shops, houses etc.My car purchase shall followed by pooja than it will be put into use.
