The whole world knows that Americans are not the symbol of hope, liberty and freedom especially after Iraq war. Similarly America doesn't have ever increasing tensions with Canada or Mexico, as India has with Pakistan & not to mention China is also a potential adversary, situation is more complex in Asia than anywhere in the world.

Uh no, such pacts are necessary for deterrence purposes. It's better to not be in a nuclear war than to be in a mutually destructive one. Deterrence is very important and a mutual defense treaty with Russia would greatly add India's deterrence to a war.

Russia will be in equation from day one.Having military exercise can also be means to decrease the distrust among each other ,its no way the sole indicator of friendliness among the countries.(India and china also had a couple of such exercises.)SCO is nothing substantial right now nor its gonna be any substantial in the near future.Russia does'nt have to have wriiten documents submitted in the UN to treat India as as her ally.

Oh I don't doubt that Russia will be in the equation, they'll be very happy to supply both sides with weapons. But start a nuclear war? They're not that stupid.
