Next generation pakistan army tank to be unveiled in IDEAS2018

IMHO ... not sure if Haider MBT is needed. HIT has under-used capacity for AK and, in the end, it might be a better idea to push HIT to its limit via a single next-gen MBT platform.

HIT might have convinced pak army that there is no need for a haider MBT my speculation might become real if HIT ramps up al khaild production to an all time high.

if HIT has under used capacity, why dont they take up external orders e.g. kits or work for T-55/59 for other clients?

Not sure. The AK MBT plant might be separate from the MBT rebuild/retrofit plant, and the latter was being used to capacity for the past 10 years. It's the new-build MBT line that has been slow. HIT has also yet to export new-build tanks, so that might also explain the gap.

I think only one rebuilding factory!

Same ... even if Al Khalid is not the cutting edge of the tank world, it doesn't need to be. Majority of Pakistani armour is made up of defunct T-59/69/85 series of tanks and replacing those older tanks with Al Khalid in lieu of buying any new tank with small gains in firepower/survivability would be a better choice. Not only would we be creating more jobs and keeping the majority of the majority of the money in house, it might actually give PA more teeth in the long run, not much different than what PAF did with the Thunder.

JF-17 replaced F-6s, A-5s and F-7s so far in PAF in numbers and is now about to go through its first major upgrade after 10+ years. For the same amount of money, we could have perhaps been able to afford barely 2 squadrons of any 4.5gen fighter. Yet the PAF is now much stronger as its baseline has improved significantly. Similarly, we can easily defer purchasing a new Chinese or Ukrainian tank and instead focus on replacing the older vintage tanks with Al Khalid for similarly raising the base standard of our armored corps.

Hypothetical tank force numbers here;

Scenario A:
300 T-80s
300 VT-4/T-85/Altay
300 Al Khalids
1500 Misc older gen tanks

Scenario B:
300 T-80
1800 Al Khalids
300 T-85s

I would be a lot more confident if my force composition was similar to scenario B.

Minimum requirement for Pakistan Army.

300 VT-4 or Altay (Haider MBT)
535 [325 Al-Khalid /
9 Al-Khalid I (add 200 more Al-Khalid I tank)]
320 T-80UD (to upgrade to T-84 level)
267 T-85 II /III (further upgrade required)
500 Al-Zarrar Tank
600 Misc older gen tanks

I would love to have Stealthy PL-01 Tank of the Future from Poland.

Yeh these polish tanks are sexy, but they are light tanks. Need something similar but in medium or heavy category.

AZ's to stay, not T-85 III.

PA wont go for light tanks.

. . . . .
I guess it depends upon AK-II completion, considering its to become backbone PA armor or if a deal is struck for an overall defensive suite for all MBT's in PA inventory, one system that suits all.

If and when it’s finalized, we need to go into high production mode to replace older tank and stay competitive.

Instead of stealth, a better investment would be APS.
We are deficient in AD, tanks can still handle most tanks along with the ATGM capability.
But there is NOTHING the PA posseses save the hope that the PAF will save them when it comes to stand off Anti Tank cluster munitions.
