New Technology Demonstrator UAV Crashes near Hosur

At least we don't paint chinese stuff and call indigenous, we try--we fail--keep trying--successful one day--that's how we even reached moon.

So keep trying your level best at sarcasm--we don't complain coz while u being sarcastic we developing.

Its time for Indians to start throwing some questions..why do we keep having so many crashes?????..very sad :(

Bro we are developing these systems by our own so failures are bound to happen..Unlike US and Russia we don't have a powerful aviation History..But if you search there are so many accidents and failures happened in their country also while developing new weapons..Dont mind the criticism I believe that our DRDO is on right path in developing weapon systems :agree:

THIS VIDEO SHOULD REALLY CLEAR THINGS UP.......watch it you can clearly see that distinctive large wings of rustom uav.. though color scheme matches the gagan uav.........too bad it crashed...

India's UAV Demonstrator Crashes During Trials

NEW DELHI - In a setback to India's indigenous long-range endurance UAV program, a technology demonstrator of the Medium-Altitude Long-Endurance (MALE) UAV, named Rustom, crashed during the first trials Nov. 16.

Sources in India's defense research agency, the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), said scientists from Israeli had helped engineers from the Aeronautical Developmental Establishment, DRDO's Bangalore-based UAV laboratory, to build Rustom.

"First flight of the technology demonstrator for MALE UAV called Rustom-I took place on 16-11-2009 at the Taneja Aerospace Air Field near Hosur. The taxiing and takeoff was exactly as planned. Due to misjudgment of altitude of the flight, the on-board engine was switched off through ground command which made the on-board thrust developed to go to zero," said the official Nov. 17 DRDO news release.

In a departure from traditional practice, Rustom will be produced in partnership with a domestic defense firm. Talks to select the partner, which include the Tata Group, L&T and Godrej & Boyce, are likely to be concluded by year's end, said DRDO scientists.

DRDO officials said the crash would not scrap the Rustom project.

"There are a lot of gains from the flight. The flight proved the functioning of number of systems such as aerodynamics, redundant flight control, engine, redundant data link etc which go a long way toward development of complex UAVs," the news release said.

The Rustom would be equipped for intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance; communication and data relay; and scientific and meteorological operations. It will be able to operate in all climates, day or night; have autonomous takeoff and landing from a runway; be capable of carrying guided weapons; have a payload capacity of 250-500 kilograms; and have a low radar and acoustic signature.

The Rustom will be able to remain aloft for more than 24 hours and have a range of 300 kilometers and a maximum altitude of 35,000 feet. It will be able to use satellite links to transmit data, thereby extending its surveillance range beyond 1,000 kilometers.

The 1,100-kilogram UAV also will be equipped with a maritime patrol radar and electro-optic sensors from Israel, and an engine still to be determined. The electronic warfare and communication system will be indigenous.

good to see crash. Because man learn from his mistake.

Don't take me wrong but in the case of DRDO perhaps this does not apply. They have more failures and less achievements.

Perhaps you should teach them to walk first and then run.

Buddy we make a big fuss about the failures of DRDO..but DRDO is not a complete failure as you think..There are success in the ballistic missile and other kind of missiles..These missiles are now inducted or ready to induct in the armed forces..and there are projects like sonars and other things which are inducted in Navy. Also Indian Army uses another UAV called Lakshya..I am no military expert but there are lots of projects which are successful and inducted in our Armed forces..Google it and you can find it .

Found on Wikipedia. Looks like another model of Rustom and not Gagan UAV.
DRDO should collaborate with ISRO who have been on the forefront of Indian Space engineering and have some of the best minds in the world. But it is worth the effort and we should keep striving until success.

Hmm..say whatever you want. Who cares. Anyways it was in response to a stupid and pointless post by one of our Pakistani friends.

don't be so trigger happy. Read my post again. You failed to realize I was not taking a dig at Chinese tech.

Typical Indian thinking. Buddy, India=fail

:rofl: can't be original even while posting in a forum. Copying from xukxuk. I don't blame you. Typical Chinese mentality.

Hey you missed to add China = Success

At least this is not "iPhone" from China.

Definitely this will be big setback for DRDO, still could not see DRDO official accepting failures but still claiming partial success,These guys should come out of this mindset.

you was not even sticking to the topic

From you was, I got it why you misinterpreted my original post. But its ok and yes I was not 'on topic', but I hope you realize that my post was in response to another off topic post and again I was not denigrating chinese tech.

But anyways lets leave it here. No hard feelings.
