NEW Province : Assembly Passes Resolution . !!

.
Just a curious question.

Why do people of South Punjab need a separate Province? I have not read much about Pakistani Punjab so I would like to know it firsthand from Pakistanis. Punjabis, especially South Punjabis, preferred. :)

Thank you.

These Political arrogant leaders are there, until then Pakistan will not be flourishing.....southern Punjab was part of Sindh ages before Multan was the capital of Sindh... The language of Punjab is punjabi, whilst language of southern PUnjab is
Seiriki (which is unique and popular for its sheeren (sweet) accent language, it is called languae of love instead of harsh accents others, but again seirki has varriant accents).....though Gilani was originally may be from KAshmir but he is Seiriki speaking ...so does Zardari's family as a Baloch and it is also said they were not originally Sindhi but Seriki province (there would be some political reasons but no one from the upper Punajab leaders every EVEN bothered to give the right to the southern Punjab...this comes when people go arrogant and let other people to go for separat countries and enemies to come in and to give fudns...I posted alot but peoples biasness would not go out when their are already five provinces on the base of language but arrogant people would die out and would CRY hard for another province on the base of language...what a JUSTICE MY GOD...Give them hidayat...when I said first dissovle others and then put a rule the same for other provinces, when Pakistan just recently in this stint got another province on the base of language Pakhtoonkhaw but these JELOUS people woud (Forgive me for my hard words but my heart die out when I see injustice and SOCIAL UNEQUITY anywhere).......but later this part went to Punjab and this part is least developed...only Part which was state Bahawalpur which was rich before Pakistan (better still then all southern Punjab)...After living with Pakistan 65 years this part has 14 or 16% literacy rate whilst the upper Punjab has 70% literacy rate... There are much more evidences provided the distribution of uneqal resources...another possible reason for poverty was the fedual system (who would not let others poor to prosper), but any leader from upper Punjab mostly would try to have good relations with these feudal and this part was related to agriculture (so another reason why they not protested when they were REMOVE FROM HEAD (captial of Sindh) to tail of Punjab...IF today when remove Lahore as capital and install Multan as capital of Punjab ...will not they die out?

Even Farooq Laghari was Seriki but he idiot is said to be a fuedal in DG khan and would let other poor people to sit deep down before and would hate to see the education in his area ...I'm sure my sense says if ANY of area is more poor then moor funds should be spent their but in Pakistan different happen until like Baloch and BENGALIS people would not go EXTREME these arrogant would behave ...

AS a side note:
I do love my country and would love to be martyar for my country
MY wish

Ever though I hate the unjust attitude of many of my bros here for no reason, how they were crying for seriki bank on other hread when there is already SINdhi bank, punjab bank and others...May Allah give these big hear...how they treated Bengalish by puting a restriction of high height in the army when they were knowing a BIG majority of bengalis can't cope with this...

Demand for Seraiki province based on legitimate grievances’
Imtiaz Ali
Friday, April 13, 2012

KARACHI: The demand for a Seraiki province arises from decades-long and worst form of exploitation and alienation of the Seraiki people while the demands for a Karachi province and Hazara province have no economic basis and are merely based on ethnic prejudice, said a PPP veteran on Thursday.

PPP Sindh General Secretary Taj Haider said Karachi is the most developed commercial centre of Pakistan where people from all provinces come to make a living. Similarly, Hazara is the most developed area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and has a very strong industrial base. Therefore, both Karachi and Hazara do not have an economic basis for the separate province, the senior PPP leader said in his paper on the subject.

Talking to The News on Thursday, the former senator said it is his thesis on the subject, which is aimed at generating debate on the issue. Haider said he is also a member of the PPP’s manifesto committee, which is looking into the demand for a Seraiki province.

As per the contents of Taj’s paper whose copy was obtained by The News, the demand for a Seraiki province arises from exploitation and alienation of the Seraiki people.

“This exploitation is within the boundaries of an existing province and the Seraiki people having no share in the policy making of that province see no end to this exploitation.”

“They rightly feel that their fair share of development resources shall continue to be denied to them. Their natural resources and produce shall continue to be usurped and their people will continue to migrate from their area in search of menial jobs elsewhere. The demand for ‘deliverance from Takht Lahore’ is basically a protest against continuous exploitation, alienation, suppression of Seraiki people, their language and their culture,” opined the PPP leader.

“What is so difficult in understanding that when a backward illiterate, hungry Seraiki demands ‘deliverance from Takht Lahore’ he is not expressing hatred against the Punjabi language, Punjabi art and culture or the common Punjabi people. He is plainly and simple giving a voice to his own misery and deprivation,” he said.

He said the demands for a Karachi and Hazara province are only being made on ethnic grounds and prejudice which should be discouraged. The PPP leader said that 85 percent literacy rate in Karachi cannot be compared with the seven percent literacy of Seraiki people.

“Thus the two demands are made for totally different and mutually conflicting reasons.” The Seraiki province is being demanded by the Seraiki people living in three divisions namely, Bahawalpur, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, districts of DI Khan, Tank, Bhakkar, Mianwali and Khushab and some tehsils of Sargodha, Toba Tek Singh, Sahiwal, Jhang and Pakpattan districts. “Sense of deprivation of the Seraiki people living in this area has a long history,” said the paper.

Bahawalpur State was a welfare state, which had voluntarily acceded to Pakistan. Taking away of its statehood and denial of the facilities that people were enjoying and latter the making of One Unit and imposing the dominance of Central Punjab was a great setback to its people.

“The water of Beas and Sutlej that independently irrigated the lower Seraiki area were sold by the first military ruler to India and the head works built on them became dependent on the water supplies from the western rivers. Cotton grown in the Seraiki area is the major foreign exchange earner for Pakistan but Seraiki area remains devoid of any textile industry or that of textile made up industry. Weavers of the area are still working on obsolete hand loans.”

Seraiki people have hardly any control on the huge oil, gas reserves of the area. Uranium found in the Seraiki area has only brought diseases caused by excessive radiation to the people of the area. Irrigation schemes have not benefited the farmers of the area. Lands belonging to them have been forcibly acquired and distributed among defence services personnel. He was of the view that the allocation of development funds to this large and backward area is pathetic.

“It is shocking to note that such a large area with its huge population gets only 10 percent of what one single city of Lahore gets in provincial development funds.”

The 18th Amendment and the NFC award have given huge additional resources to the provinces. Provincial autonomy and the control of minerals, gas and oil is now in the hands of the provinces.

“The Seraiki people rightly fear that the additional resources will be spent in Central Punjab and income from oil and gas and other valuable minerals will also go to ‘Takht Lahore’ instead of the Seraiki people.”

Haider said the provisions of the 18th Amendment at the same time will likely to open the gates of rapid development for the Seraiki people, if the divisions of Bahawalpur, Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan were made into a separate province.

You know even the salaries and all the recruitment would be done from Lahore and Punjab univeristy and upper Punjab univeristies have very high bugets and resources and so from past 60 years mostly student from upper punjab (of course they have more good teachers as they are high paid) spill over in the southern punjab at high posts...

.
These “A$$holes” doesn’t knows that by dividing Punjab into two, they actually giving him majority in Senate (Upper House) where all provinces have equal representations at this very moment:coffee:

Assuming they would win North and South Punjab.

I think a referendum is needed before divisions are made.

Ex-Cons cannot make such big decisions on our behalf.

was it referrundum followed when Bahawalpur was merged into the Punjab ...so if reffrundom would go then of course all Biased punjabis from upper punjab (46% population of Punjab) would die out to EAT UP more this Punjab and will never vote...EVEN what do you expect the illiterate and poor of Southern Punjab knows that they having 14% of literacy and resources were not fair in 65 years....just an attempt to keep united with Punjab...

It's for the Siraiki people, not for votes

You mean all population of lower punjab is sirakiki speaking?

I would prefer to re-instate the status of State of Bahawalpur rather than being part of an ethnic based province. What will be the advantage of it Multan will be getting all development

Seraikis are not ‘south Punjabis’, just like Pathans aren’t ‘north Punjabis’. Stop calling them southern Punjabis; it’s in bad taste. Having one’s cultural identity reduced to a geographical variant of an alien ethnicity is unpleasant.People should realise how incredibly offensive it is when they claim that Seraiki is just a dialect of Punjabi and not a different language. Seraiki is an ancient language, rich with heritage that represents its people. Some even argue that linguistically, Punjabi may be a relatively recent relic of the Sikh invasion, while Seraiki, with its original Sanskrit script, might be significantly older.

It’s ironic how a breakaway country for Muslims that denied a breakaway country for Bangladesh is now denying a breakaway province for Seraiki people. However, it’s refreshing to see that this rigid perspective might be changing.

Very simplistically, East Pakistan wanted out because their profits were being diverted to West Pakistan, and they weren’t getting their fair share of control. This is the same reason that Seraikis want out. Sentiment shows that the people are tired of their money being given to Lahore and the infrastructure costs of the industrial magnates of the Punjabi north.

People love talking about how divisions along linguistic lines should not be entertained. However, the proponents of ‘one big Punjab’ manage to blur over the economic benefits of north Punjab having its very own sweatshop down south. Moreover, the incredible political strength that Punjab derives is mainly from the extra representational power given by the large Seraiki speaking areas forcefully appended to the province. The Seraiki district of Bahawalpur was forcefully attached to Punjab after the one unit scheme.

Remove the Seraiki speaking areas and you break Punjab’s vote bank, and take away its power to oppress other ethnic minorities and peoples. I’m tired of my vote being misused. If we had a separate province and more autonomous division, my vote wouldn’t be misused by my Punjabi overlords to oppress Balochis and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

South Punjab is the bread basket of the country; it generates a significant proportion of the country’s food from wheat, and the cloth from cotton. Despite knowing this, we managed to sell the Sutlej river – the main water body that catered to the area’s irrigation needs. The resulting decrease in water levels caused water-logging, salinity, flooding, and quite a few agricultural troubles that resulted in large chunks of lands becoming infertile and uncultivable. Is it so wrong to ask for some money to be spent on south Punjab? Hardly any funding is diverted to the region. This might be a significant reason for the radicalisation of south Punjab where terrorists are breeding.

Pakistan manages to efficiently discriminate against less powerful ethnicities, religions, and people. Muslims got Pakistan to stop living as second class citizens in their own land. Sadly, Seraikis are still second class citizens because of the way the way the province has been forcefully constructed.

Everyone deserves a haven where they can be autonomous to teach their own language, and practice their own culture. Most importantly, they should be able to spend their money on their own cities instead of having it spent on the cities of their northern political leaders. Saying that religious divisions are fine but linguistic divisions aren’t, is just plain hypocritical.

If Pakistan continues down this path, I fear the country will be victimised by the very divisive logic that created it. Bangladesh down, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Seraikistan to go.

The British ruled pre-partition India like a colony. Pakistan did the same with Bangladesh. Pakistan was the British mistake, Bangladesh was Pakistan’s. Let’s not make the same mistakes over and over again.

Was the PPP blind and deaf for 4 years, that they have felt the urge to make a province now, and get votes??? Oh, yeah, there were no elections for 4 years.

BTW, PML has also put forward a resolution for Hazara, FATA and Bahawalpur provinces. And we have another round of political point scoring now.

There are much bigger issues in pakistan than making provinces. If the system and culture does not change, no matter how many provinces you make it isn't going to change the life of the poor man, the common man.

Atleast people can get their CV's up for getting a job as a pilot for some provincial government!!!!

The PM is saying that the people of south punjab should rejoice to their full on this moment. The Ex-Con can just shut up. He has again said that the people of South Punjab will no longer be oppressed!!

How were they being oppressed??? I have lived in Multan for two years, visited alot of Southern Punjab, but it is not much different from rest of pakistan. Then how are they being oppressed and not being given their rights? This Con is not the PM of Siraikistan, he was the PM of Pakistan, the whole country. I don't even know what to call him!!!

A con will sign this resolution, I hope PML make a noise on this that the Con's vote is void.

Pakistan has 8 administrative units and defacto area is around 8.8 lakhs square Kilometers when you compare it with turkey with almost a 1 lakh Sq Km less area has mouch more provinces so in my view Pakistan should have atleast 15 subdivisions to manage the country well.

but all language of Sindh is not Sindhi ...alll language of Balochistan is not Balochistan (A big majority of Sarikies there)...same goes others...
We have already said that from 60 years alot of spill over of Punjabis in Sariki area becasue of recuritment under Punjab public service commission...service commission or all high level posts are filled since southern Punjab went into Punjab...sooman bokman umyon fahom malay yarjayoon...

I cannot understand the prejundice of the people or their critearea for giving others right untill go EXTREME....WHEN kashmiris (4% percent I guess) has kashmir, Sindhi has Sindh (around 15% population),,,Punjabis (46%) has Punjab Pathan (8% of population) and balochis (7% of populaton )WHY SERIKIS of 13% percent of Total population don't deserve a province...why conservative people would stick to

....I do remember that I believe they are 2nd largest in population but than in last population we learned that they are on 3rd greatest population of pakistan...God know these demographic as I don't believe but...guys I don't remember exact data of population but I believe it was earlier 3rd Greatest population of Pakistan but NOW THEY say it is 4th after Punjabis and Sindhis.....

Dear we already have debate on it, I am not against on making new provinces or administrative units or whatever but I am against make provinces just to keep some son of b**h rotten, *** ***** **** *** *** **** politicians and makhdooms in power. If you are really concerned about well being of people than why not follow this map after little bit tweaking and introduce local government

This way, all of Karachi is getting developed but interior SIndh cities are not!!!

So let's make a province in Sindh.

As I said, the infrastructure in Multan and there abouts is not so different to the rest of Punjab bar Lahore. And lahore being developed is justified , it is the provincial capital, same with Karachi, Islamabad etc etc.

Quetta is developed but other cities of Balochistan are not, lets make a province!!!

The Ex-Con PM saying that the people of Siraiki belt will get their rights, that is BS. All of pakistan is living exactly like people of Siraiki belt. There is no systematic extermination of Siraiki people. They are in same condition as all of other pakistan.

Had the Ex-Con PM said that this for betterment of the area, and for better administration, it would have been more acceptable rather than playing the Siraiki card and Sindh card previously. As I said, this is all for votes, was the government blind before this, seeing this is election year.

This map is much better. Instead of using the Siraiki card this is much much better.

Make administrative units for the whole country, so justice is done to all. So, administration is made better everywhere, not just Siraiki belt. people should think as pakistani for once and try to think for the betterment of the country rather than saying humara sooba. What will hamara sooba do, what will you do with it? It is still the same country , the same system, the same corruption. I on a personal level don't care if there is my Punjabi province or my Kashmiri province.

But PPP knows that they need vote bank from Punjab, and their is no threat in Sindh and Balochistan, so their is no need to worry there for PPP for votes.
