Lately in the corridor of power thinking about dividing the power of army into two commands, Northern Command and Southern Command. Where political analyst see when army has two power poles, then marshal law or any type of military coupe will be out of question . Means a two General with equal power will neutralize the situation, rather One General with Single command.
But they are giving the excuse where one General take control cross border terrorism and other control the situation along Pak-India border.
What you think ?

I think the three operational commands, Northern, Central and Southern Commands already exist and are commanded by Lieutenant Generals. These commands function under the COAS at General Headquarters.

I wish Petty Politicians could focus on development and leading the nation towards peace.

Let military do its job

Dividing carving military will only result in dividing carving up of political system and then politicians will come crying, gernail marta hai, gernail marta hai.

pathetic.

.
9+ corps is too large for one HQ, the 3 commands are actually army HQs but mushararf &co ahve sabotaged the deal...hopefully the new COAS will be able to correct the situation.

Good Job. After all the checks and balances are very important in democracy.

this model holds good when it comes to Security Agencies or LEA - as you can have Regional Command centers. But end of the day even they answer to someone higher up and that one is the Interior Ministry.
If we implement the same with Military then you can have two Generals reporting to Defence Ministry or the President - him being the Commander in Chief.
But unlike LEA and SA, Military operates in co-ordination, Supply & Transport, Logistics, will be a major hurdle as you need clear co-ordination between the two.

Even if we ignore that you cannot make two Generals to work without co-ordinating with each - Defence Minister will not be there all the time for them to talk.

Hence a new poistion will be required and that will bring us back to our first question.

these comands work under GHQ--the british system has commands controlling corps in peacetime/homeleand and army hq controllling corps in the field--the Army/groiund forces hq controls the comands see in india or the uk in ww2 [now their "army" is just a reinforced division size {5 brigades} so they dont need command hqs].

There are merits and demerits of this solution but only testing it would tell us. Strictly in terms of operating, personally, the army us close knit : it won.t divide because of such tactics.

And what if it results in a North Vs South CIVIL WAR at some point ??? the idea of "Two ROGUE armies" in one country may not be a very good one

You won't be using the word "rogue" if you had an iota of knowledge about Pakistani army.

Sorry to see this careless rambling from someone with Pakistani flags.

To be honest, US has been doing military's job by attacking TTP through drones.

That's just one aspect of it.

If our masses are fully supporting army against the Islamists Mullahs and Ayatoooooolllahs,
then army will kick out Tehrike Terrorist Pakistan in no time.

So far, lal masjid and mehsud incidents clearly show that our massess are not 100% behind our army when it comes to fighting Islamism.

peace

But who created Islamist Mullahs in the first place? Who was actively supporting them until 2006?
Lets face it, that not until the introduction of Gen Kayani, did the military assumed its role. Defending the geographic boundaries of sovereign. Today at whatever issue do we see (Balochitsan, TTP, extermism etc) Army's past doings have their fair share in each of these. Now it rest with Gen Raheel to forward the thought process of Kayani and let the civilians handle the domestic and foriegn policy.
