New Pictures of Sahand Frigate

why blocks of metal sheeting ? ..why not smooth surface like one piece ? ...talking about exterior of ship.
All ships are made by welding pieces of steel plate together. Welding causes huge local thermal gradient resulting in residual stress inside the plates and thus cause them to slightly deform. Good paint job would help but at the end of the day, all of the ships will look like that if you look at them from a certain angle:

This is Shivalik Class (india) destroyer. You can count the number of plates that are welded together on the super structure:

IVER HUITFELDT-CLASS [DENMARK] Same, look at the superstructure

ADMIRAL GORSHKOV CLASS [RUSSIA] You can see the joint of plates on the lower hull.

Uaahhuu ! New SAHAND frigate with Marine diesel engine Caterpillar 3516

C10000411

they had said they would install new Iranian engines Bonyan-4 from 5000 bhp, the 3516C-HD Caterpillar, the most powerful, develops 3150 bhp.
If it really is a photo of the Sahand frigate with 4 Caterpillar 3516 grow up to 12,600 bhp, while in theory with 4 Bonyan-4 would develop 20,000 bhp, therefore there should be a big difference in speed performance.
However, it located a doubt, it is possible that the author has used photos taken at different times and in different places, because in recent days images were published on the installation of a FAC class SIMA (copy of the class Kaman / the Fighter) and 4 Caterpillar 3516 for power output equivalent to 4 MTU installed on the original class Kaman.

However, what made me jump is not so much if they use domestic engines or not, but because in full and hard US embargo Iranians have managed to acquire Marine engines (diesel fast) high power brand Caterpillar

.
well, if they used Caterpillar motors (Made in USA!, i think they get them through second hand or whatever) than because they are better than iranians Bonyan-4.
I hope they will reverse engineer those Caterpillars...
Im very curiouse when we will see first Iranian frigates powered with gas turbines (Siemen, MAPNA..)

I don't think that Caterpillar engine is used for traction. It is probably used for power generation or stand by. This is probably the traction engine:

It looks like Bonyan or at least half of it:

a power of 3150 bhp for generators a frigate of 1400 tons?
no!
the generators are the engines painted green, in this picture it is clear

. . .
Congradulation on the new ship , lot of initial work , with few more tries the design and internals would start to shape up as good as the outside of the ship

I was kinda expecting the inside of the ship to be Mint condition since it is brand new

Something along the lines of this cleanliness

The large black metal pipes that connect to the green generator , what is that towel wrapped around the areas?

However since it is first initial tries for Ship it is understandable still quite an achivement to make 2 different Frigate ships in such a small time frame

Also the wiring work is all over in the open so I am assuming the interior is not finished work likely 55% ship completed from looks of things

frigate Sahand
Iranians than the US Caterpillar engines, have been able to also buy the satellite communication system of the US company "Intellian"
3_33.jpg

How do you know this is a satellite communication system? As opposed to e.g. a Satillite TV antenneas from the same company? (Aside from logic, which would suggest satcom, is there any statement/proof of purchase of this?)

Judging from the shape of the dome, it could be either Maritime VSAT or s-/t- series Sat TV antenna.

It's written on it "Satellite antenna" ...

.
the question is not whether it is a satellite receiver antenna or TV, and frankly I do not care much, but that is a US product, and who have managed to buy it despite embargo
