New pics of IAF SU30MKIs heading towards Red Flags 2008 Exercise

There are some conflicting reports about the radar of the MKI as having been removed for the trip to Nellis. This makes sense since the MKIs will only be used in Air to Ground roles at Red Flag. The LDP and the vectoring from the AWACS would be sufficient for this role.

IAF removes hi-tech radars as 8 Sukhois leave for exercise with US
New Delhi | Monday, Jul 7 2008 IST

In a bid to maintain operational secrecy, the Indian Force have removed hi-tech multiple aerial target tracking raders from its eight Sukhoi 30 fighters before they left for the United States to participate in the 'Red Flag' air warfare exercise with NATO forces.

Highly placed sources said here that the NIIP N001 radars, providing some ability for air-to-ground attack and to track and engage multiple aerial targets simultaneously were removed in a bid to maintain secrecy about the ability of the equipment during the air warfare exercise for which IAF was invited this year.

An Air Force spokesperson, however, maintained that there was nothing secret about the avionics and equipment mounted on the SU 30 MK I and its equipment was fully functional. ''We are not playing a game of hide-and-seek,'' he added.

The Indian Air Force would be participating in a multinational Air Exercise, "Ex - Red Flag 08" at the invitation of United States Air Force (USAF), scheduled to be held at Nellis Air Force Base in the US from August 9 to 23. The IAF contingent today left for the exercise. The IAF would participate in the exercise with eight SU-30 MK-I aircraft, two IL-78 air to air refuellers and one IL-76 transport aircraft. The contingent would comprise 156 personnel below officers rank and 91 officers (inclusive of 10 members of "Garuda" IAF Special Forces team).

Exercise Red Flag is a multinational air exercise that is held thrice a year at Nellis Air Force base, USA. The IAF would be participating in the Exercise alongside South Korean Air Force with F-15K and the French Air Force with their latest Rafale aircraft, apart from the USAF. Red Flag was originally conceived in 1975 by USAF with an advanced aerial combat training format with an aim to ensure that pilots are trained well enough to survive in air combat and win air battles. The exercise holds tremendous learning opportunity for all the participating Air Forces. Prior to the main Exercise at Nellis, the IAF contingent would be working up at Mountain Home Air Base in Idaho, US from July 17 till August 8. The IAF contingent would reach the US via Doha (Qatar), Chorlu (Turkey), Mont de Marsan (France) and Lages (Portugal) before reaching mainland USA and Mountain Home airbase.

The Israeli delivered avionics and integration. I doubt they did not deliver US the source...

Do see thart Turkey is joining Red Flag... Input for PAF...

Well, thats great how do you know they delivered the source to US, you are an insider or just running your imagination out of control.

What are the chances that they do not have it?

Look, Syrian SAMS were totally hacked during the latest air attack. Do you think that Russia gave the codes? Do you think that arab were selling them on the fishmarket? I do not need to be something but I do have indeed something most of you do not have. At the moment the only reason to steal a plane is to check flight parameters... And with many Israeli opponents going for Flanker that wil be the best idea ever...

Some more pictures from Mountain Home AFB

Note the LANTIRN targeting pod that we usually see on F-16s, F-15's in USAF

I think the most used plane in F16 then lot of countries who are not friendly to israel can check the data and do something about it.

It is about MKI and not israel or F16... And what makes you think that they don't do that? Somehow some people do give oneliners without depth.

And what make you think that they do that/already done that? Please enlighten us with the depth if you have

What makes you say so?

I doubt it very much in terms of input where the input is actually applicable beyond generalist comments. Red Flag requires an inordinate amount of paperwork and preparation including US disclosure forms that prohibit the transfer of critical information such as tactics and flight characteristics which are largely uncertain even for pilots conducting DACT. So while the PAF might get some input on the tactics involved the systems and operations aspect will offer zilch in terms of value unless the PAF actually participates. Same thing goes for naval excercises.

Munir,

I have to agree. PAF will get nothing out of this other than general stuff they already know. Excercise specific information is usually closely guarded on a need to know basis.

Thanked by Indian for what? Somehow I think the thanking has no vlaue if empty minded posts are decorated. Even if not happening... hen you have intimate Anatolean Eagle and since there is friendship between PAF and TAF you know what happens... BTW Anatolean eagle is same idea and second largest in the world.

The value for IAF sending MKI is hardly somehting to shout about... Only Air to Ground... There you talk about handling every fighter and here you are on the most important test area acting as a bomb truck... Don't believe me? Here... And it explains why MKI was flying around with a2g pod... So it has no a2g and it will be used in Red Flag as a2g... What experience will they gain? How to bomb mud and not how to fight in the air?:toast_sign:
