Mughal empire is not the fabric of india. The classical indian civilization is which is a fusion of remnants of the dravidian harappan civilization and the aryan sanskrit civilization is.That is the foundation. The muslim presence and the western influence are toppings that were imposed.Difference is while the colonials hollowed out india economically, were racially oppressive and politicized its divisions they left behind concrete achievements also -political unity, new technology, railways,a modern indian army and bureaucracy, common law and constitution, universities. They also never attacked indian religion directly and regret colonial atrocities instead of boasting of causing suffering as muslims do.So the colonial experience while brutal has a legacy of some substance.
What did the muslim period between 1200-1700 do for us?It was dark age for indian sciences. All the universities were burned and royal patronage went to useless madrasas. While indian mathematicians and industry flourished in classical india we had zero inventions during this period, all the while europe was moving ahead.Mughal GDP was 25% of world's output(gupta empire was 33%) is often thrown around -the devil in the details is india's per capita income was decreasing. The nobility was living lavish lives and the common indian was crushed. There were more famines than in british times, something they wouldn't tell you.
These invaders introduced sex slavery on a massive scale, purdah, child marriage, bachabaazi and other regressive practices.Slavery existed before the muslims but the difference in bonded labour described in arthashastra where slaves have rights to chattel slavery of muslim period is totally different.
Did muslims free the lower castes from the evil brahmins i ask?Failed here too.Even today caste is rampant among muslims - they go to seperate graveyards and won't intermarry.Ilsam didn't end caste system,it just gave it cover for syedism and ashraf rule instead of brahmin-rajput rule.
There was massive loss of human life and a direct attempt to wipe out our way of life by destroying temples, universities, cities. It might have been forgotten if not for current day muslims actually celebrating these savages as heroes which rejigs the cultural memory even though current generation has never experienced it directly. Its telling that the biggest city in India during the period was vijayanagara (2nd largest in the world at that time) not any muslim city -which was razed by muslim hordes. It was an attempt by an alien civilization imported from the middle east to erase an existing one that failed, but not without causing massive damage. What did we get in return? Some luxury cuisine and architecture ?Its not like we lacked those.I'm sorry but the balance is overwhelmingly negative.
You want us to celebrate the above -then you must think us masochists.Does spain celebrate the 700 yr old al andalus as its fabric just because they built the alhambra and cordoba?Does russia celebrate the mongol yoke?Go to the balkans and ask them about the benevolent ottoman rule.Your completely unrealistic .We don't identify with the mughals or the delhi sultanate in any way - you might. Its simply an occupation by an alien civilization that left some lingering influence .Its fading history. If you were india's fabric you would not be hated by so many -simple as that. You reap what you sow.Islam's story in india barring kerala was a story written in blood and tears and karma always balances the ledger.
