New Delhi sees Pakistan as a strategic partner

Nuclear weapons are safe, says defence official DAWN FORUM
Swat operation: Is it on the right track? NEW DELHI: India saw Pakistan as a potential strategic partner and wanted Islamabad to mend fences with New Delhi, Foreign Minister S.M. Krishna has said, offering again to join the hunt with Pakistan for terrorists.

‘Whether you refer to Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal or our immediate big neighbour China. We have our problems but we also have our lasting friendship with all of them,’ Mr Krishna told CNN-IBN news channel.

‘We want a strategic partnership with all these countries so that we can live in peace. Development could be our mantra or the engine, which will drive us.’ Mr Krishna was asked to comment on India’s contrary approaches towards Pakistan and Sri Lanka in fighting terrorism — seeking a ceasefire against Tamil rebels while pressing Pakistan to do more against the Taliban and other extremist groups.

The two situations had a different meaning for India, Mr Krishna said.

‘What was happening in Sri Lanka was internal strife, but what is happening in Pakistan is the territory of Pakistan being used repeatedly to assault India.’

The Mumbai outrage was still fresh in the minds of Indians. ‘So we feel that Pakistan should have the commitment and determination to fight terror and India is going to partner with them in fighting terror in both Pakistan and India.’

Was it possible to expect the composite dialogue to resume anytime soon, given the backdrop of Mumbai?‘We as a country would like to be in peace with Pakistan. We would want to have friendly relations with them.

Every time we have reached certain critical stage something like this happens. 26/11 happened at a time when the composite dialogue between India and Pakistan was moving in a particular direction and we were pleased with the development. And then suddenly this heinous crime on India was perpetrated,’ Mr Krishna said.

He regretted the fact that Pakistan had initially failed to accept that the perpetrators were its citizens or that the plan to attack Mumbai was hatched and executed from there.

‘And ultimately Pakistan conceded the fact that they were all Pakistanis and the one who is in our custody is a Pakistani. Such being the case it will become extremely difficult for India to continue the composite dialogue unless Pakistan brings all those perpetrators of that crime to book to justice. Then perhaps there is a possibility that we can move along the composite dialogue.’

The Mumbai affair had a very negative impact on bilateral relationship and the dialogue had been virtually halted, Mr Krishna admitted.

‘Pakistan will have to do some introspection and take some steps in order to set right the record.’

The Indian minister said his country had upgraded its vigil for trouble from across the border since the recent attack in Lahore.

‘Our level of vigil has been upgraded and we are conscious that certain developments could take place. We will monitor the situation very closely and take all precautions to checkmate any such situation.’

Nice first quotes coming from the new EAM. And considering his role in the development of Bangalore and its promotion as an IT hub, I am sure ke he knows what he's talking about! He's had considerable success in raking foreign investment.
So heres hoping to better bilateral relations between our two countries and bigger trading opportunities. :enjoy:

For peace and prosperity!

What is the guarantee that Bharat does not become a 'stretegic enemy' after any bomb explosion or Hindu-Muslim riot in any part of Bharat.

New-Delhi government is known for changing its statements using baseless accusations in past.

Why Indian leadership is so dumb, don't they know that this is exactly what terrorists want and India hands them on silver platter.

What a blooming pity.

Yeah.. going by the strong sentiments expressed by the pakistani members heere, I too have begining to feel that SM Krishna is a fool and Pak-Ind should never even consider being friendly towards each other. We should always remain foes and keep on pulling each other downwards.. right guys???:tdown:

Welcome back, seeing you quite after a while.

.
Well then lets live in peace lol one hand washes the other both countries need to work towards friendship & peace !

.
Well I have always maintained in the present circumstances India has to take the first steps towards confidence building. This is imperative as Pakistan is today deeply involved in COIN ops in their own country and it is in India's paramount interest that Pakistan clear out this menace at the earliest.

This is the one act that the GOI can do and another thing can be a slight reduction in troops in the IB. This are all diplomatic signals and have a deep significance in boosting mutual trust.

We can be rivals till hells end but we are also neighbours and have to learn to co-exist, not co-survive.

.
This has been going on for quite a while now. Pakistan and India become friends then they start talking about solving disputes then Kashmir comes up and then something like Samjhota express bombing or Mumbai attack happens...then we are enemies again.

I hope Pakistanis dont start singing pak-hind dosti like we were in 2005.

The only way we can be friends is if we solve all our disputes including Kashmir.

What a blooming pity.

And yet JUD will be allowed by the Pakiatni leadership to run under a new name and then protected in the UNSC with China's help?

What a blooming pity, that we routinely blame the victim.

Mr. Fateh. Are u saying that Pakistan , put a show. and that Pakistani courts are a farce.

Dude let me enlighten you, India must not have provided a ironclad proof, so Pakistan had to let em go.

U do understand, Not guilty till proven beyond the shadow of the doubt.

.
And there was not enough proof against LET too hence the same LET guys were allowed to run another org in the same famous compound, all this when LET was banned, successfully banned in courts too, but then the GOP went ahead and protected JUD (read LET front as the same ppl in the same office, HELLO!!!) in UNSC, a shadow of doubt, there is not. If GOP was so smart, then why do they protect these terrorists and then when they kill indian citizens keep wondering innocently why India does not go ahead with dialogue.

Who are they fooling, except their gullible population?

.
well it sounds gud but is difficult to happen before we solve all our disputes espacially kashmir. everytime there will be an incident lik smjhota or mumbai and we will be back to square one. kashmir is the drivin force behind all the militancy bw pak and india
