New cruise missiles for Russian Yasen-class sub

The Russian Yasen-class nuclear-powered submarine Severodvinsk will be equipped with unique sophisticated cruise missiles, a source in Russia’s military-industrial complex said on Tuesday.

The source said that the Kalibr supersonic high-precision missile is capable of targeting aerial, submarine and coastal targets, and is effective up to an operational range of 375 kilometers.

In a sub-sonic modification, the missile’s operational range amounts to more than 2,500 kilometers.

The operational range of the US sub-sonic cruise missile Tomahawk stands at about 1,150 kilometers.
