New air chief marshal resolves to transform IAF into ‘aerospace force’

Operation Gilbertar to Kargil to Whatever, we all know the outcome's.
So good luck Pakistan.

Oh, please....

We all know it took more than a month to get rid of those militants, and even that wasn't possible until Pakistan had to withdraw, you people had more than 4 divisions including IAF to stop people with AK's.

I would say good luck to India.

How Comic it gets, Neo puts an Article from Dailytimes about "New air chief marshal resolves to transform IAF into ‘aerospace force".
Rehman reply has no relation to the topic rather taking dig at poverty in India.
Muradk joins the bandwagon.

Neo should rather have changed the title to poverty in India, or Rahman as Moderator could have helped ;)

You should be happy that it is PFF. Otherwise, you would have received something more enlightening.

. . .
SUKHOI and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited have joined force to counter the threat of F-22 and JSF, both companies will make a fighter which will be as good as F-22 by 2009. if they make something like that they dont need Aerospace anymore.

First of all did I say something wrong ? If you are pointing to PDF you know better.

Pakistan should now team up with China to learn and develop space technologies to counter Indias designs.

This is good thinking.

If the above is true. Then good bye for Super Hornets. :)

Yes it is very true they made this deal in Feb 2007, my point is that there must be something in the pipeline or other wise you cannot come up with a fighter like F-22 in 2 years. Beating both F-22 and JSF you need the Holy
Grail to make something so quick and so advanced.

You must be talking about the Indo-Russian 5 gen aircraft plans.Well actually there has not been lot of information on that either. GOI has only said that it plans to develop a 5 gen aircraft with Russia, but hasn't confirmed if it going to be Sukhoi or Mig.

Apparently India wants a single engine aircraft, which was planned by Mig oppose to twin engine from Sukhoi. However RuAF is only funding the Sukhoi plan and not the Mig.Since they require additional funds they want to rope in India.

The 2009 timeline was for Sukhoi design which is well under way. They are looking out for additional funds. If India wants to co-develop,they are left with only the Sukhoi option which will come out in 2009. Hence there might be a MKIsed aircraft rather than from the scrath for India.

However it is still a speculation that India has opted for Sukhoi design,no confirmed news yet.

Webby,
We are more confused about what GOI plans to do.They are dragging MRCA.
The Mig 21 replacement was the main criteria for MRCA.However they will not come until 2010-2011,by the time which LCA would have complete IOC/FOC.
Even worse there will around 20 LCA ,compare to in production MRCA.

Hence the question arise... would there be a MRCA,when MiG21's suppose replacement would be ready?

Now to all this confusion....add the Indo-Russion 5 gen project .

.
Con,

The confirmation is already with Sukhoi Project, Deal was signed on Jan 26th.

Murad Sir,

I dont think India nor Russia is even with their combined efforts can match the F-22, i can agree on the F-35, F-22 is a bit far fetched.

I still believe F-18 will be taken for their Deep Strike Role, Which India currently lacks

I would'nt underestimate the russians, its just the matter of the availability of funds $$$$, they can develope anything, even a perfect match for Raptor.

Besides i am still confused, why india still has'nt signed the deal for MRCA, what exactly they are waiting for or what they are up to.....

Wow, lots of comments.
A.Rahman, you DO know that Pakistan spends MORE on its defence as a % of its GDP right?

So you guys spend even lesser money as compared to us in % terms on social benifits.

So before saying what or where we should spend, look in your own country. We spend more, because we can afford to spend more, because India is bigger, because it has a much bigger economy.

Webby, the new plane which is being built is meant to be atleast 100%-150% superior to the capabilities of the Su-30MKI. Whether that challenges the F-22 or F-35 remains to be seen. Atleast we are making an effort to build something, there is a schedule, etc, etc. Pakistan seems to be dependent on just saying that they will get J-XX or whatever.

Con, there is no confusion about 5th gen. They have displayed some foresight and signed on already for 5th gen. We would have had to jump on the bandwagon sooner or later, so rather sooner than later. Its a wise move.

Russians can never match US in terms of avionics, radar & stealth. They will always be 2 decades behind. Anyone remembers how soviet planes were shot down like flies in Arab-Israeli war, given the two, I will take American planes any given day because of the quality; Americans have been working on F-22 since 1981
& have spent around $70 Billion on the program.

Sir, these are the same guys who are having problems with LCA; talk about a fighter that can defeat F-22; not in this century. :D

We are forced to do it; we follow minimum deterrence policy & our forces are for defense. If some day India cease to exist; you will see a drastic cut in our defence spending.

On the other hand, India has ambitions that is not feasible for it right now. Like investing money for nuclear submarines;aircraft carriers; & other expensive weapons.

Sounds to me like India wants to join the superpower club; and it perusing power projection capabilities meanwhile people are sleeping in streets & going hungry.

malay,

Even in 2015 we will not be able to build something like Raptor, however ACM does claims that he plans to build something of the 5th generation fighter which i believe can challenge the 5th generation fighters. Even today Indias ability to manufacture aircrafts with Russia is limited. I said we will get it, because i know we can't build it. I like to play realisticly. While you say you want to build a 5th generation aircraft with Russia, i can see how would that go.
