Actually, Toshiba makes some very reliable laptops , yeah battery life can be an issue though.

HP has overheat problem.

In my house, we have both Dell and HP..
But Dell is better, though it is costly... HP has heat problems, u shouldnt really use it near lap..
And HP is cheaper than Dell.. The price range quoted by the OP, is best suited for HP or Acer...

Dell is best if its service center is present where u stay, else its not good.

Sony vaio is one of the best brand.

Acer is not good.

my frnd bought Samsung , he fucke# his laptop, still its working fine, never saw such robust laptop.

Toshiba made reliable laptops, not anymore. I have a Toshiba Qosmio. Bought it 2 and half years ago, hard drive has failed 3 times, heat sink 2 times, and the battery life is just shyte. Good thing is I have extended warranty, so if the hard drive fails one more time, they ll replace it with a new laptop

Now am kinda hoping that the hard drive fails one more time

The only annoying thing about dell service centre is that they refuse to accept cash. They are even willing to accept a demand draft instead.
