Naxals shoot Chhattisgarh MP’s son to death

A day after union home minister P Chidambaram’s visit to Chhattisgarh, the suspected naxalites shot dead son of Bastar’s Lok Sabha member Baliram Kashyap near Bhairaguda temple at Jagdalpur in Bastar around 300 km south of Raipur on Saturday. In the daring attack another son of the MP was seriously injured.

Tansen Kashyap (33) who was president of Bastar Janpad Panchayat, went to the temple to perform puja along with his two brothers Dinesh and Kedar when the rebels fired from very close range. The incident happened after Kedar, who is a cabinet minister in Raman Singh government, left with his security guards after the religious ceremony was over. Both Tansen and Dinesh were rushed to Maharani Hospital in Jagdalpur in critical conditions.

According to the doctors, Tansen succumbed to the bullet injuries however the condition of Dinesh who was immediately operated upon remained stable. Dinesh, the eldest among the three brothers, is a president of Jagdalpur central cooperative bank and a former MLA.

It was the religious ritual on the Maha-asthami puja celebration that the Kashyap family annually performs at Bhairaguda temple, which is barely two km from their ancestor home.

According to the eye witnesses, some unidentified persons fired on Tansen and Dinesh barely couple of minutes after the state minister left. “After the firing commotion resulted and the four persons who fired managed to flee on cycles”, said Sudhir Kashyap, the eye witness.

Reacting to the incident, the state home minister Nankiram Kanwar reiterated his appeal to all elected representatives to remain vigilant. “I had already asked the leaders to remain alert during their visit to naxal-infested regions”, said Kanwar.

The Bastar Inspector General of Police TJ Longkumer told Hindustan Times that the police had ensured tight security arrangement during the programme however once Kedar left the place with his security forces, the remaining two brothers were without any security cover. “Apparently, there was no threat to Dinesh and Tansen so no police protection were provided to them”, said the IGP and further added that the police have launched search operation to track down the assailants.

The sate police spokesperson RK Vij maintained there were security arrangement and the incident occurred after the puja was over. “Only after the investigation it would be known if any security lapses had taken place”, said Vij.

An army cann't win against it's own people. The only solution is a political solution.

Army is still not there.

There cant be a political solution with the terrorism. Terrorism and terrorist we have just one answer shoot to kill. There is need for economic development over there.

Peaceful operations need peaceful measures and any threat to federation of India would be dealt in the same way.

There are seventeen different independence movements in india. If you employ military means the whole india will be in a state of war.

We not yet deployed military yet.

If we did half of them will surrender just like that.

Indian military is something very different. they wont give the second warning and then they will shoot to kill. They dont have to abide by civilian laws then. But we dont want the tanks rolling in our states so we opt for internal forces when they are already doing the excellent job wiping them off. It is just matter of time when we clean them up.

Autonomy is an integral part of a federal union like India but secessionist movements are not allowed.

Most of the organizations you have posted about exist on paper which is why the army is not used. Paramilitary is used in the northeast and the army in Kashmir but the police takes care of the rest. Like the dreaded Khalisthan movement in Punjab which was totally crushed by KPS Gill and his poilice force. The army had nothing to do with it.

Lalgarh tribal leader Chatrodhar Mahato arrested

KOLKATA: Elusive tribal leader Chhatradhar Mahato, spearheading an agitation since November last year against alleged police atrocities at
Lalgarh in West Midnapore district, was arrested on Saturday. ( Watch Video )

Mahato, the leader of People's Committee Against Police Atrocities (PCAPA), was arrested from Pirka near Lalgarh when he was preparing to give an interview to a journalist, who was trailed by the police, a top police official said.

The tribal leader, who had been giving regular interviews to local television news channels when the anti-Maoist operations by central para-military forces and the state police at Lalgarh began on June 19, had gone underground shortly afterwards.

The tribals under him had "liberated" Lalgarh and had free run for nine months with the police withdrawing from camps before the central forces and the local police recaptured the areas from the grip of Maoists, who were assisting the tribal agitation.

The agitation started after police raided the homes of tribals shortly after West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and then union ministers Ram Vilas Paswan and Jitin Prasada narrowly escaped a landmine blast at Salboni on November two.

The tribals under Mahato had demanded that the then Superintendent of Police Rajesh Singh should appear before them and apologise for the "atrocities" committed by the police.

You forget bloody AFSPA of 1958!

The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act was passed on September 11, 1958 by the Parliament of India.

It was passed to enable certain special powers to be conferred upon the armed forces in disturbed areas in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura.
