About 50 companies of central security forces will be deployed to deal with Naxal menace in the poll-bound Gadchiroli district in which 17 policemen were killed recently in an ambush by Maoists.
The administration has acquired helicopters and stationed them at Gadchiorli, Aheri and Nagpur to assist the polling machinery to conduct free elections," District Collector and Returning Officer, Atul Patne, told PTI.
About 50 companies of central security forces are being deployed for the October 13 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Manoj Sharma, Additional SP Gadchiroli, told PTI.
He said after the killings of 17 policemen at Laheri in Bhamragarh taluka of Gadchiroli district, additional forces of CRPF were requisitioned.
These para military forces were airlifted from Jharkhand by special IAF transport aircraft to the city and special arrangements were made to transport them to Gadchiroli district from Nagpur, police said.
The district administration is leaving no stone unturned to ensure security for the polling day. The CRPF jawans will be posted at all the sensitive zones.

He also said that the Naxals are not terrorists and the only way to deal with them is look at the causes for the alienation of the tribal population. I applaud him for that.

I have lot of respect for Mr. Manmohan Singh. He is a very wise person and it is his vision that we can see India moving in the direction where with God grace one day we will become a proud Super Power...However i am not sure if he is a great politician so when it comes to dealing with such a complex political problem i am a little sceptical about his success. Though his statement tha Naxals are not terrorist is indeed a welcome step...

This when the Govt has already banned CPI-Maoist party and declared them as thugs and terrorists?
And didnt you read about TC's Mamta Banerjee's comments about the Largarh operation being a mistake? People like her and the Communists of Bengal are the real problem here. And their comments and views are surprisingly safeguarded by our constitution. Lathi charge such rabble rousers!
Its just votebank politics and in the process they succeed in creating chaos, unrest, and political turmoil! Idiots. Remove such trouble making politicians from the area and see how the problem fritters out!

It was a right move to ban them and i have no hesitation in calling Naxals who have taken arms as terrorists.. but you got to show sympathy towards the masses who have not taken up arms and were/are ignored for decades. So just calling all of them terrorist is not going to help and that is where Mr. Manmohan Singh statement is welcomed. Remember most of them have been brain washed and its our system that have failed them..so YES go and shoot the crap out of people(even the one that has taken up arms) but when u do that always remind yourself it is you(read us) here who have forced them to that path.

So do you think what happened in Lalgarh was right??? I certainly dont think it was right..i mean obviously we had to clear the area with use of force but the bigger question is to why such a situation arose??...Yes we have cleared the area but now what?? Dont you think use of force alone is not going to help..How long can we keep our forces there???

Indeed it is...Thats what has happened in the past as well....These poor and deprived people have been used by poiliticians for their benefits...Hopefully now GOI will do something concrete about it

shutdown in protest against what they alleged the Centre's effort to put down the CPI(Maoists) movement by force.

"They (Maoists) blew up a stretch of railway track around 2.30 am at Jharandih in the Coal belt Industrial Chord section in Dhanbad," Senior Public Relations Officer of the Dhanbad Rail Division Amrendra Das told PTI in Dhanbad.

Shaktipunj Express was held up due to blast, he added. In another incident, about 12 armed Maoists set fire to three trucks at around 1 am in Giridih's Isri area and cut down trees to block road traffic on the Dumri-Giridih road, Giridih Superintendent of police Ravi Kant Dhan said in Giridih.

They also partially damaged a road bridge, which connects Dumri to the Grand Trunk Road, using explosives, the police officer said.

Maoists pasted posters in Giridih's Parasnath area. Tight security arrangements are in place in the naxal-affected districts in the state.

Earlier, suspected Maoists set ablaze a truck laden with 'sal' leaves in Kotwali area of West Midnapore district late Sunday night.

Police said a group of people, suspected to be activists of CPI (Maoists), stopped the truck at Nayagram under Kotwali area and asked the driver and helper to alight.

They then set the vehicle ablaze and retreated into nearby jungle. There was no report of any casualty.

The incident took place despite the presence of joint security forces of West Bengal police and CRPF in certain nearby Maoist pockets including trouble-torn Lalgarh.

Some reports suggested the Maoists also raised slogans demanding the release of tribal leader Chhatradhar Mahato, arrested from Lalgarh on September 26, but there was no official confirmation.

5,500 of paramilitary guarding Gadchiroli

A contingent of 18 companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel — around 2,100 men — arrived in Gadchiroli on Sunday to assist in the combing operation to clear out the Naxal group that had gunned down 17 C-60 commandos last week near Lahiri.

Eight companies of the CRPF and 27 companies of the Border Security Force had been pressed into poll duty earlier this month. With the fresh arrivals, the number of paramilitary personnel in the district has gone up to over 5,500.

In a joint strategy chalked out by the Maharashtra police and the Chhattisgarh government, the combing operation has begun from both sides to first round up and then flush out the Naxals.

Gadchiroli Additional SP Dr Manoj Sharma said the second army MI-17 helicopter was pressed into operation on Sunday. Two more choppers would be made available this week.

Meanwhile, 20 kg of high-intensity explosives with blasting devices were recovered from Korchi, 65 km north of Gadchiroli, on Sunday.

Sharma said the recovery was made while clearing a road. The explosives had been stashed in a cavity, ostensibly by Naxals to disrupt movement.

The Naxals, he said, were resorting to “every possible trick” to obstruct the progress of the search parties in jungles as well as roads by creating obstacles.

“The jungles have been mined while attempts are being made to disrupt road communication,” Sharma said, adding that mine detectors and anti- mine equipment were being used to clear the passage.

Take as many prisoners as you can. We need them to rebuild Roads and Schools they destroyed.

There are many IT guys in India making 6 figure salaries, still they are a very small % of the total population. On the other hand, the Naxals are most poorest people. Instead of giving them education and economic opportunities, India's elite want to crush them militarily. On one had India claims to be the biggest democracy, but on the other hand it is the worst in human rights with 3+ million child prostitues.
