Nawaz Sharif praising dictator Zia-Ul-Haq

Kids won't know but those of us who lived through General Zia era , remember that as the golden era of Pakistan.
No wonder 33 heads of state and 72 high ranking government delegations were present at his funeral, including the PM of India.

Your General Zia ul Haq started his career of international infamy in September 1970 by massacring the Communists and Socialists of the PLO in Jordan on behalf of Israel government and NATO and then graduated in NATO's eyes in the 1980s by making the territory of Pakistan to become one of the staging grounds for the psychopaths of the world - from Indonesia to South Asia to elsewhere - numbering in total from tens of thousands to maybe 100,000+ to enter Communist Afghanistan and destroy a society being progressed by the Communists including sending an Afghan to space but Zia's bois and Khomenei's bois abetted, armed, funded and politically supported by NATO and China did the killing of two million Afghans by the end of that phase of the war, and paralelly in Pakistan repressing and oppressing the females and the progressives and of course establishing an elite unit of Tableeghi "scientists" to research how to harness jinn power to power the electricity machinery of humanity for all eternity.

And the then PM of India, Rajiv Gandhi, wasn't actually present at Zia's funeral but full Indian government honor was made :
Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi tonight ordered flags flown at half-staff for three days as a mark of respect for President Mohammad Zia ul-Haq of Pakistan. Mr. Gandhi was joined by other Indian leaders in expressing grief at the death of a man they had confronted and often bitterly criticized over the years.

A spokesman for Mr. Gandhi said that flags would fly at half-staff at Government offices and institutions across India but that the offices would not be closed, as they are when India mourns the death of its own leaders.

Officials close to Mr. Gandhi and opposition spokesmen expressed concern about the stability of India's neighbor after General Zia's death.

''A lot really depends on the kind of role that the army leadership in Pakistan decides to play,'' a senior official said.

Mr. Gandhi also scheduled a Cabinet meeting on Thursday to approve a message of condolence and review the situation in the region. Time of Poor Relations
The development comes at a time of poor relations between the traditional military rivals, including a burst of Indian anger over the last two days at President Zia for honoring former Prime Minister Morarji Desai with Pakistan's highest civilian award for his role in improving relations in the late 1970's. Mr. Desai, the first non-Congress Party leader, was Prime Minister between 1977 and 1979.

The Pakistani leader had negotiated with four Indian Prime Ministers in his 11 years in office, and on several occasions he showed his diplomatic skills. Last year, he took the initiative to calm a possible confrontation between the armies of the two countries and visited India to meet with Mr. Gandhi at a cricket match to ease tensions.

In a message today to the acting Pakistani President, Gulam Ishaq Khan, Mr. Gandhi expressed shock over General Zia's death and said he hoped that ''the people of Pakistan will face the crisis with fortitude and calm.'' He also conveyed his ''heartfelt condolences'' to General Zia's widow and other members of his family.
In a separate message to Mr. Ishaq Khan, President Ramaswamy Venkataraman of India said, ''All of us in India share your sense of grief and sorrow.''

Prominent opposition leaders also expressed sorrow and concern over President Zia's death, and predicted a period of turmoil and instability in Pakistan.

Question of a Successor

The question of a successor appeared to be uppermost on the minds of officials and political leaders here. This is especially so in the light of the Soviet pullout from Afghanistan and the confrontation between India and Pakistan, who came close to an armed clash last year and battle often at a remote glacier in the northern area of Kashmir.

''I think that Pakistan is in for a very rough patch,'' said Subramanium Swamy, a member of Parliament from the centrist Janata Party, who visited Pakistan several times and met with President Zia. ''It has to be a military man who succeeds him and the only man that I see approaching Zia's qualities is Sahabzada Yaqub Khan.''

Mr. Yaqub Khan is the Foreign Minister of Pakistan and is to return to Islamabad on Thursday from a visit to Iran.
Mr. Swamy described President Zia as ''a consensus man, he consulted his army commanders closely before taking a major decision but few Pakistani military men have these abilities.''

Indian leaders have also been critical of the United States for supplying advanced aircraft and other weapons to Pakistan, saying it was spurring an arms race on the subcontinent. They also have charged that President Zia supports Sikh terrorists in the Punjab.
In fact, the Indian Home Affairs Minister, Buta Singh, pressed the verbal attack on Islamabad in Parliament today, saying that India had ''proof to the hilt Pakistan's large hand in aiding and abetting the terrorists.'' Pakistan has denied these accusations just as regularly as India has made them.
This Indian State honor was because unfortunately Rajiv Gandhi would have helped Zia ul Haq get back into power if overthrown by Pakistani Communists and Socialists as Rajiv Gandhi feared that leftist governance in Pakistan would lead to more USSR presence in South Asia after Afghanistan and would have very possibly led to Indian Communists and Socialists insurrecting and there Rajiv saw Zia-ruled Pakistan as a buffer against USSR and Communism in general :
Rajiv Gandhi regarded Pakistan as 'strategic buffer' against USSR: CIA document
Sep 01, 2015

Washington: Contradicting perceived proximity to the Soviet Union in the Cold War era, India under the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had toyed with the idea of supporting anti-Russian civilian groups in Pakistan if the then Zia regime was thrown out by Moscow, a recent declassified CIA document has claimed.

According to CIA documents of the era, which were recently declassified and posted on the CIA website under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), which is similar to India's Right to Information Act, Gandhi wanted non-interference from both the United States and the then USSR. "Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi would like both the USSR and the United States to end their involvement in South Asia," noted the 31-page CIA document titled 'The Soviet Presence in Afghanistan: Implications for the Regional Powers and the US'.

While taking note of the historic India-USSR relationship in particular in the defence field, the CIA report of April 1985 noted that India is likely to become increasingly concerned about long-range Soviet intentions in the region and could find itself moving towards confrontation with the Soviets if Pakistan was effectively neutralised.

"New Delhi regards Pakistan as a strategic buffer against the USSR and would oppose Moscow's effort to dominate Pakistan. New Delhi and Moscow would find themselves supporting rival factions within Pakistan," said the report, according to which Moscow had plans to change the regime in Pakistan and extend its influence beyond Afghanistan. In that case, the report said, "The Indians would seek to significantly reduce their dependence on Moscow and reorder their strategic relationship with the USSR, the United States and China if they perceived Soviet ambitions as extending beyond Afghanistan toward the subcontinent."

According to the report, the Soviets tried to heighten India's suspicion about Pakistan's intentions and its security relationship with the US in order to foster Indo-Pakistani tensions and heighten New Delhi’s dependence on Moscow. "In Soviet view, conflict between India and Pakistan would work toward solving Moscow's Afghan problem and would give Moscow opportunities to strengthen its position in South Asia," the report said.

"If (Gen) Zia (Ul Haq) regime were to fall, the Indians might try to prevent Soviet attempt to dominate Pakistan by supporting rival Pakistani political factions, Soviet military moves against an already neutralised Pakistan could even result in military confrontation with India," it added.

Six months later when Gandhi was planning to meet General Zia on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York, the CIA analyzed that the then Indian Prime Minister, despite his strong public views on Pakistan's nuclear weapons program, was unlikely to push him hard on it. "Gandhi is unlikely to push Zia hard about the Pakistani nuclear program, although he probably will at least mention his continuing concern," noted the top secret CIA document dated October 21, 1985.

"For his part, Zia is also likely to propose ideas on ways to improve the bilateral relationship. He may suggest regular high-level diplomatic talks in addition to the formal Joint Commission sessions that focuses on trade, communications and cultural exchanges," the report said. "Zia may also solicit Gandhi's views on whether as the Pakistanis believe the Soviets are becoming serious about a negotiated settlement in Afghanistan," it said.

Our version of history? Dude our pst books are a bunch of crappy propaganda meant to indoctrinate people. Lets not forget the hudood ordinance too.

You are right. Please read above. :)

Muslim, Communist, Human, Knower of some history. :)Unless you say that Pakistan had and has none of the first three categories. :)

Besides, Zia ul Haq would have gladly allowed PM Rajiv Gandhi of India to interfere in Pakistan's internal affairs and rescue him after overthrow by Pakistani Communists and Socialists. So if Zia had no problem why are you complaining ?

Pakistan will never be able to develop under this mentality of begging and corruption.
All efforts are made here only to exonerate themselves from corruption cases and make more money through rigged laws than legally.

Wekho ji saade te buzurg hi ni theek aapa ki sidhe raa te turnaa hai

You see, this Noora Sharif family is extremely ill-reputed family. In those times, 1980s, their anecdotes were always circulating in social circles. The father Mian Sharif was called "Dhakkan Chor", in Gawalmandi, where they originally lived before shifting to Model Town.

Yes. Same clan. This sub-caste is found in Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims, of Punjab. Original place is Jhang, Pakistan. Hindus and Sikhs migrated to India in 1947. A Sikh spokesperson of Congress, from Bombay, belongs to the same clan. Perhaps, his name is Charanjeet Sapra.
