Navy expects early arrival of submarines

. . .
Ming Type 035
The Ming-class is a remodeled Romeo-class submarine. The Romeo-class submarines were built using Soviet designs based on the German Type-21 U- boat of 1944. While these boats are entirely obsolete by modern standards, they are useful for patrol and coastal defense duties, and continued construction in the 1990s provided a relatively inexpensive replacement for aging Romeo-class boats.

we were expecting sub from early 90's at least they are coming refurbish or new no matter when our economy will improve we will get more modern sub insaallah

who are you kidding here???? this sub was made in 90 based 1940s technology and you are boasting for buying such junk. What a disgrace.... If better ones available were bought then this would have been worthwhile. This purchase was purely to tie up what ever limited fund Bangladesh had so that no REAL defense capability could be built. Typical india prescribed awami plan cheer lead by people like bdforever and now you...

How can a sub based on 40s technology capable of firing anti ship missile? Did any of the German XXI sub capable of firing anti ship missile? Please do not misled by bogus sources. Those western explanation of Type 035 sub , know nothing and just typical cut and paste from 40 years old data.

Type 035G: Program begun in 1985, and the first unit with pennant number 356 was lunched in 1989, service in December 1990, and state certification received in 1993. This is the first Type 035 series to have anti-submarine (ASW) capability. The primary weaponry for Type 035G is Yu-3 torpedo, and French sonar DUUX-5 and its Chinese built version were used on later units, 12 of which were completed between 1990 to 1999. The last unit with pennant number 308 was lengthened by 2 meters to add a section for AIP tests.

If BD buys the 035G version, they are basically still quite new and they are no 40s technology. Special tiles are added on surface to reduce sonar detection, same as Kilo. The anti ship capabilites maybe added on to constant upgrade the sub.

Bangladesh Navy has initiated process to buy two tugboats at a cost of Tk 130 crore to assist operation of submarines which are scheduled to join the naval base at the end of the current year.
Officials said they were in a hurry to procure the tugboats ahead of the arrival of the two submarines from China.
They said tugboats were essential without which the submarines could not be operated from the harbours.
Dhaka struck a deal with Beijing in November 2013 to acquire the submarines for strengthening the navy’s presence in the Bay of Bengal.
It was apprehended that China would supply the country’s first submarines in 2019. But now the submarines are coming three years before the previous schedule.
The two submarines would cost Tk 1,500 crore.
According to a recent document of the navy, Beijing is almost ready to handover the submarines to Navy at the end of the current year.
Navy has sought additional Tk 26 crore in the current budget from the ministry of finance for making the down payment for the tugboats.
Defence ministry officials said that the government had taken the initiative to add submarines to the naval fleet in the 1980s to build the Navy as a three-dimensional force in the Bay of Bengal.
The Navy had communicated with China, France, Germany, Italy, Pakistan, South Korea and Turkey since 2010 for procuring the submarines. But only China came forward with its two off-the-shelf submarines — Type 035G—that are diesel-electric and wanted Bangladesh Navy to bear the refurbishment costs with equipment as required.
The submarines of Ming class will have capacity of firing anti-ship missiles from its torpedo tubes.
About 17 Bangladesh navy sailors are training to operate the submarines. The navy has meanwhile acquired land on Kutubdia Island in Cox’s Bazar to set up a submarine base.

But It was always scheduled to join the fleet by the end of this year,PM herself notified this timeframe in BN's annual Darbaar.Either those Press guys no noting or their processors are made in 1960s!
