Naval chief wants Gwadar deal cancelled

Good post, Gwadar became a reality due to heavy Chinese funding and it will serve two purposes.

*A free port with incredible potential to become the next commercial hub in the region and provide China a much shorter route to blue waters.

* A military base for joint Sino-Pak navies to keep a close eye on those who have mischievous agenda (guess who?)

It is sad to realize that even some friendly nations are involved to make Gwadar a failure but so far this has not happened. One evidence of this was the inclusion of Dubai Port World in Gwadar port authority tender. So, eventually we are heading in the right direction.

Before the naval chief gave his statement, few days before that, news articles in the media had already started to come that govt at higher levels had come to an understanding to revoke the deal -
You are sure that the anonymous source for these articles wasn't the admiral himself?

If one reviews the history of purpose of developing Gwadar to begin with I think you will find:

1. Gwadar is intended to be a major oil transfer port, to have refineries built on part of the currently unused land or acres.

2. Gwadar is also supposed to represent a huge expansion of the formerly very meager railroad capability of Pakistan, with connecting rail lines to be or now having been built connecting Gwadar to Afghansitan, Iran, and India by rail.

Focus on these down to earth areas with timelines of when the Chinese committed to do such and under what business terms and conditions is needed here.

Also, please take into account that the entire world is suffering from an outright economic depression that only nitwits think is merely a recession. This says that with the war on terrorism costs, overall Pakistan infrasturcture costs, and of course the costs of the largest most devestating flood in Pakistan's history leave the Government of Pakistan and most of the free enterprise system of Pakistan flat broke!

Continuing to ask for and expect something for nothing vs. paying for what one gets are all up in the air...bartering for sunk Chinese port and railroad costs vs. a share of land and future hoped for profits is and was always how this was to work.

This entire quoted news story sounds immature and irrational in context of the worldwide economic depression.

PSA is not serious about the port. Some people speculate that PSA has been bribed by other countries not to work on Gwadar Port. There are many countries that dont want to see Gwadar Port a success.

Best option is to sell Gwadar Port to China. China's interest is same as Pakistan's interest, and the Chinese will take Gwadar Port very seriously.

Source please.I am tired of mental farts of lot of conspiracy theorists here.

Before the naval chief gave his statement, few days before that, news articles in the media had already started to come that govt at higher levels had come to an understanding to revoke the deal with PSA and transfer the port operations to China, as PSA had not done what was required of it.

So, after this above fact, i believe its useless to talk about this fact less conspiracy theory that naval chief wants to do some corruption, as his statement came after the govt had already decided to what to do in coming future.

Here, this report came on 15/09/2010: Gwadar Port may be given to China Special Report on Balochistan

And the poor naval chief gave his statement around 23 / 24th Sept.

Ships visit Ports where the Goods are Destined for or where the Exporter provides the Goods for Exports.

All Pakistani Importers and Exporters are using Karachi and Port Qasim.

This could be due to the lack of direct Rail connections between Gwadar and the rest of Pakistan.

Well, if he was the anonymous source, then we would have heard a contradictory statement from the govt, that whatever the news article said on the 15th isn't true. But since there hasn't been a counter argument stated by the govt sources, it means this is what the higher ups are thinking too.

Plus, as for your land query, the CNS himself told about it and this issue has been raised before too, this land has not been allocated during this CNS tenure, rather it was before him, so accusing him is of no use nor will it work.

In pakistan, not everything is transported through rail, lot of stuff goes through the road network, and Gwadar is linked to Khr with a very good road network. The Makran Coastal Highway: Makran Coastal Highway - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

But infrastructure does important role, i believe the motorway plans as well as rail network plans are in the final stages of planning and we may soon see some work on them, but unfortunately local economic conditions as well as political conditions have also not been favorable, due to which this project has been suffered, had we given this project to the Chinese from day one and no red tape issues, we may had seen much much more activity and development of local infrastruture.

For moving Goods in Bulk over long distances - Grain, Cement, Fertilizers, Steel, Containers, Ores, Coal etc. - Rail transport is far more economical than Road transport.

Once Gwadar is connected by Rail to various parts of Pakistan then the Port will "Bloom".
