NATO tankers set to fire in Pakistan after attack

Unidentified assailants in Pakistan set fire to tankers carrying supplies for NATO troops in Afghanistan on Friday, officials said. The attack came a day after Pakistani authorities said NATO helicopters from Afghanistan had killed three soldiers in a cross-border strike.

"The attackers fired with small arms on tankers and fled away. No one was hurt," an official of the paramilitary Rangers force in Shikarpur town, where the attack took place, told Reuters.

27 Nato fuel tankers torched in rocket attack

Updated at: 0922 PST, Friday, October 01, 2010

27 Nato fuel tankers torched in rocket attack SHIKARPUR: More than 27 oil tankers, meant for Nato’s fuel supply and another three vehicles, have been torched after some unidentified assailants fired rockets, which resulted in eruption of raging blazes, meanwhile two men suffered injuries in the incident, Geo News reported.

Confirming the rocket attacks, Nato sources told media, the ambush took place near Shikarpur Super Highway where Nato and ISAF’s over 30 fuel tankers were parked at a fuel station.

Around 2am, unknown miscreants unleashed rocket assault, which raged fierce fire in consequence, while the blazes engulfed 27 tankers, laden with highly inflammable fuel, coupled with abutting areas, witnesses said.

Also, two unknown civilians were burnt in the onslaught and three vehicles, parked nearby, caught fire to be burned completely in the long run.

“Shikarpur police have placed stern cordon around district”, DCO Saeed Ahmed said, informing that nearly 15-20 men were behind the attack.

He said supply tankers, en-route to Afghanistan, were staying at a gas station for fuel filling purpose as the ambush occurred.

“Fire tenders have arrived on the site and rescue efforts have got underway”, he told media, fearing that given the strength of fire, rescue members have been facing hardships to bring raging blazes under control.

Shikarpur district has been cordoned off after attack, DCO added.

Interesting thing is that they were attacked in Shikarpur. A place which wasn't known for anything like extremism or taliban.

Looks like people are really angry with NATO's attacks. :)

After yesterday attack i say take all the good and burn few trucks and say that all got burned......No supplies until NATO commander apologize for attacks...Guarantee no more attack in future...Those who are responsible of attack should be handed over to Pakistan for interrogation.

I don't think apology will do much good...

At best, if they apologize, keep one supply route blocked

Bad move.Burning will only ensure that US will play even more hardball and strike Pakistan even more.It may even affect the aid to Pakistan

we need to give around 20 stringers missiles to afgan talibs, for Nato halicopters correction!!!

OMG ... I'm surprised by the reaction of the people here.

It's a fact that Pakistan can't face off US militarily. The best option for Pakistan is to take the fight to diplomatic level rather than encouraging more violence.
Did anyone here said Pakistan can.....????

BTW Taliban are less equipped then Pakistan still giving US a hard time. Same was teh case with Veitnam. I dont think there is going to be war on this. But stopping supply for month or two will deliver a strong message to US. Killing soldiers of Ally country is not tolerable. And its not the first time. With most modern tech its impossible that it was a mistake.
