NATO official: Turkey faces ‘consequences’ if purchase of S-400 completed

Just kick Turkey out of NATO. It wants to chart its own course politically, diplomatically, militarily, and economically. Rest of NATO should oblige it.

NATO is none of the above, its a defense alliance. Do your homework.

You have more power than me, sir!

Yes, NATO is a defense alliance, but a defense against what and whom?

Largley against Russia, but still a defense alliance in general. So all your arguments dont have much weight, its not some politicial or economical union. Countries are still soverign and will do what is in their interest.

Greece, another NATO member, has bought S-300 long ago. Why is it becoming problem for Turkey to buy just a newer model of the same thing?

typical western hypocrisy..

Also Bulgarian and Slovakia in NATO operate it even before joining the union and nobody made a problem about it. I am not surprised though... Turks are a popular topic in Europe for the past more than a thousand years so it’s not strange that every move of Turkey is watched with suspicion.

NATO would never kick Turkey out, the geopolitical interests are just way too important, kicking Turkey out would be a major security threat for Europe and US, but US might continue to try to replace the goverment with a more western friendly one, some of the options have been used in the past but failed recently.

To be fair, the Systems that Greece got were actually from Cyprus, Turkey protested that Cyprus bought S-300 so the systems got transferred to hellenic army and stationed in Crete as far as i remember correctly.

NATO is just hot air, its benefactor n sole father the Us has become a laughing stock, getting slapped here and there by Pakistan,Iran and north korea so NATO can go F**k themselves, turkey will buy whatever they require....

That will be big loss for NATO.
Agreed. Turkey's ground soldiers for NATO are hard to replace.

But then again, it makes sense- why would NATO want a NATO member to "mix" Russian and NATO/western block equipment? THis is the same issue affecting Egypt, KSA, etc and like i said b4 on this forum, they will likely not get it because US doesnt want its equipment interoperating with Russian equipment.

I do not understand this. Turkey shots down a Russian plane and killed the Pilot and then Russia and Turkey becomes best friends?
When you put the right context to the incidents, it makes sense. Turkey's situation and position have changed over the long syrian war. lol.

When Greece bought the s300 there was no issue. See how the Whiteman speaks with two tongues
Maybe Greece isnt military important or relevant enough for NATO to be bothered by S300 acquisition?

And who is going to do that in what dream fantasy?
Or is it that you want in but cant because of Turkish veto concerns?
Let me get you out of your dream fantasy,Turkiye stays in and you will never get in.

No,thats not it,my country is no more the ''obedient Muslim gard'' of the US/NATO.
My country is getting independent and in the way of the ME plans of the US,so it s working against my country by supporting our enemies(YPG/PYD) in Syria, the hidden sanctions(blocking all weapons sales to my country) against my country, the suspension of visas for Turks etc.
The US did my country a big favor by blocking weapons sales, our weapons industry is thriving and it will only get better.

thats true. i generally agree. you guys have bought a TON of good western equipment, arent under any serious sanctions, and have grown mature as a nation currently so you do have leverage to maneuvre. If you guys just realized NATO/EU wasnt going to really help you guys all the way, then thats just naive, but its ok. lol.

Turkey started looking for missile defense systems(domestic and foreign) after the US, Germany, and the Netherlands declined to renew their Patriot missile deployments in southern Turkey. S400 purchase is the result of that.

If NATO has a falling out with Turkey just bcuz Turkey bought S400 that's NATO's loss. Turkey has a strong military that's much needed by NATO...and in any case NATO will find it better to have Turkey with them as compared to the possibility of Turkey being in some other camp. The denial of that Patriot missile system renewal, delaying Turkey's EU bid, refusing Turkey the option of having its pilots trained by Pak, etc...all of this just goes to show the different manner in which Turkey is treated as compared to other NATO members/European countries.

As for this purchase of S400...Turkey should go on and purchase it. NATO wouldn't like that for sure but they will be helpless to do anything about it. A strong message needs to be sent from Turkey to NATO and the EU. They need to understand that Turkey is fine with or without them...they can't bend Turkey to their will.

What help are you talking about, the outdated expensive junk we got from the US and Europe to be used as cannon fodder in case of a war against the USSR?
We dont need help, its the openly backstabbing in geo-politics what bothers Turks, the CIA or Pentagon used to do it in secret so that the average Turk wouldnt know but as you can see, they openly side with our enemies which makes it easier for us to make other choices then the ''West'',Harry Obama started it and Forrest Trumpy is just trying to ''go with the flow''.
The US(CIA or Pentagon) thinks that it can mend ties again in the future but those days are over, ties will never be the same again,we stand on opposite sides in Syria,on Iran,on Pakistan,on Russia and most likely on China.
Why do you think the US approved the upgrades of 123 Greek F-16s to Viper level(and probably some F-35 as a gift but officially they will make it look like Greece paid for them),a country that cant afford it?
The US is making wrong choices and losing valuable allies.
