It is his personal opinion and if he wants to act unprofessional as a politician then so be it because todays Japan is a "capitalist"(actually more socialist democratic) democratic country.

I suppose it is due to miscommunication due to the emotional topic of Japans invasion and occupation of China during the 2nd Sino-Japanese War.
