Name change for PAF Academy

.
Asghar Khan is one man responsible for what the PAF is today.. this is the least done for him.

.
There are other ways of honoring him like make him Marshal of the air, a 5 start honorary post. Giving him highest military awards etc. but naming premier academy after a hero does not fit the bill

A grand ceremony was held at the Pakistan Air Force Academy in Risalpur on Wednesday night to celebrate the renaming of the academy after Air Marshal (retd) Asghar Khan, who was the first Muslim Commander-in-Chief of Pakistan Air Force.

The aviation cadets of PAF Academy presented a parade at the event where Asghar Khan was the chief guest.

A short documentary encompassing the Khan's career was also shown during the ceremony.

Later on, Air Marshal (retd) Asghar Khan unveiled the plaque of PAF Academy Asghar Khan.

"Air Marshal Asghar Khan is a man of high integrity and character who served the nation with his visionary leadership and earnestly worked for the upgradation and improvement of Pakistan Air Force," Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman said as he addressed the ceremony.

"Renaming of this prestigious institution after him is a befitting tribute to legendary," the air chief said.

The ceremony was attended by the former air chiefs, war veterans and a large number of retired and serving senior officers attended the ceremony.

Hi,

ACM Asghar Khan was a traitor----he contacted his indian counter part before the 1965 war and told him---if you don't indulge your air force---I won't indulge Paf either---and that without the knowledge of the govt---.

On one side the Paf has great warriors and on the other side it is filled up with traitors---.

Uncle Ji, you mean to say that even after over 50 years, the authorities still don't know this and have gone ahead to honour him. !!!

To name a base/academy while you are alive in most cases its done after Shabbat or death, I think its speaks about the respect

An impressive parade and ceremony is in progress to rename Risalpur Academy as "PAF ACADEMY ASGHAR KHAN"

oh boy... you guys are going through this weird phase too!
dhaka airport has something like "hazrat shah zalal international airport"
how long is that dhaka international airport sounded much better...

PMA or PAF academy sounds much much much better imo

.
Nothing weird, he was the pioneer officer who laid the ground work of what the PAF is now. It's befitting that PAF have named their training academy after him.

What shariat has been violated in that?

Various buildings in west point are named after US heroes
The Nimitz carrier class is named after a person

AM Asghar Khan is the reason the PAF even is worth its salt today.
Technically the academy is the most suited honor for him as he laid the foundations for excellence that sustain till today

Some people are not worth the toe jam of AM Asghar

M M Alam was a hero and how he was treated? I think most of us know.
He along with every other Bengali, that is a blot in Pakistani history but pray tell how that is related to this?

.
seems awkward.:frown:
what if someone renames PMA as pakistan military academy raheel sharif???
Raheel Shareef is not the father of Pakistan Army. All Navy bases and air force bases are named after people. Its only weird to you.

MM Alam is a hero, and was treated with honor, dignity and respect. Most of the hot shots were not built for bureaucracy and politics hence did not get high ranks, nor did they crave it.

Some words for my instructor and mentor. You are a loony at most.

What gives you the right to even comment, who are military academies named after?

No, he did that during the Rann of Kutch conflict, and not during the '65 war, AM Nur Khan was the air-chief during the Sept war.
His gamble worked too, the army to this day, proudly claims that they had the upper hand in Rann of Kutch conflict, had the IAF swung into action at that time, PAF would not have been able to stop them, with only Masroor airbase in the South, that too was too far from Rann of Kutch area to respond quickly to any determined attack by IAF, and we would have witnessed whatever happened in '71 much earlier.

I would say that it was a master-stroke by him, it saved the army's skin, and gave them something to brag about before the September war.
