Then you've a hindu majority.Lolzz
Because I believe Buddhism branched out of hinduism. :P
:disagree: Both are dharmic religions and that is the point of similarity. But Buddhism teaches us to believe in ourselves and it is a philosophy of atheism. Then how can you say 'Buddhism branched out of hinduism'.

An example of complicated & profound religious thinking (from Jainism - contemporaneous to Buddhism)

From the Mahapurana expounded by Jinasena (9th century Jain work)

No single being has the skill to make this world -
how can immaterial god make the material world?...
If god is ever perfect and complete,
how could the will to create have arisen in him?
If, on the other hand, he is not perfect
he could no more create the universe than a potter could...
If you say he created to no purpose,
because it his his nature to do so, then god is pointless.
If he created in some kind of sport,
it was the sport of a foolish child, leading to trouble ...
If he created out of love for living things and need for them,
why did he not make creation wholly blissful ?...
If he were transcendent he would not create,
for then he would be free;
Nor if involved in transmigration,
for then he would not be almighty ...
And god commits great sin in slaying the children
whom he himself created.
If you say he slays only to destroy evil beings,
why did he create such beings in the first place ?...
Uncreated and indestructible, the world endures
under the compulsion of its own nature ...

probably trolling. also one thing I like about atheism, it waits for no divine outside agency.

Depends. You can argue it either way. Hinduism had schools of thoughts (and was influenced by) similar to Buddhist thought. Atheism is not completely an unknown concept within Hinduism.

One, Gautam Buddha was himself a hindu prince , Sidharth was his name.
Two, buddhism and hinduism both emphasize on non violence and compassion towards other living beings.
Three, both the religion stress on karma.
Four, like hinduism buddhism also believes in transmigration of souls, cycles of birth and death.
Buddhism is hinduism sans its elaborate rituals.
Ask me and I would say hinduism is a science that I live by and I would hate to call it a religion....hinduism is a way of life and so is buddhism.

clear heresy under Islam and Christianity of course. I thought their scriptures made a perfect god.

Not sure what that means.

In China a common thing Buddhists say is "阿彌陀佛!" which means Amitabha Buddha!

They also say "Ommm...." I guess you know that. :P

"Buddham Sharnam Gachchami" means to going in sanctuary/shelter of Buddha (well i cant translate 'sharanam' correctly though...)

But at the time of Buddha, wasn't he considered unkindly by Hindu priests.

Makes you wonder, doesn't it? We are essentially dumber than people who lived in the 6th century BCE........

We follow Theravada Buddhism and that's the difference.
Buddham saranam gacchami - I go to the Buddha for refuge (literal meaning in pali)
Om is used by other religions too. But we never say that.
