KARACHI: Veteran television actress Naila Jaffri, who is reportedly suffering from cancer and is under treatment at the Liaquat National Hospital, is in need of financial support.

Playwright and lyricist Ali Moeen, who visited her Friday evening, said the actress is suffering from ovarian cancer. “The illness surfaced four to five months ago. She is at the third stage now,” he told The Express Tribune.

“Therapy was done today to contain the disease but her body is not responding… [however] Naila is in high spirits.”

Moeen urged well-wishers, and the government to support her. “She wants to be shifted to Shaukat Khanum hospital…needs a lot of support, both moral and financial.”

He said many from the showbiz fraternity have shown their concern for the cancer-stricken artist. “Everyone has been visiting the hospital to see Naila. Sangeeta apa and Adnan Jilani, among others came today. I insist everybody come together to support her.”

She is known for her roles in dramas and telefilms, including Aa Mujh ko Sulana, Desi Girls and Thodi Si Khushiyan.

It is sad to know about her dreaded disease. Having said that I fail to understand as to why government should help. Only because she is an actress? What about those who are under privileged and suffering from similar illness. Common man end up consuming all their savings and property to fight terminal illnesses, no one lobbies to get government support for them.

She is from a profession which is paid very well; barring from those old time actors who were paid very less. Today's actors, intentionally not writing celebrities as they cannot be role models, are paid very well. Their each dress value more than one months earning of many families. Though government should provide quality affordable/free medical facility for all, irrespective of their financial status. But in current situation, does it suit these highly paid professionals to seek free medical assistance? If at all actors faculty should be able to develop a fund or trust which should support them when in need.

There is an existing government's program under which she is being funded. She is not getting any favours or special treatment in this case.

My fried my reservation is mainly targeted for those who are under privileged and delivering babies on road, dying pitiable deaths on roadsides. If government does it for artists, lawyers, armed forces, journalist, etc. Why not for all others and if it is not for others why for them.

Naila Jaffri refuses government aid as a protest on Sajjan Jindal's arrival in Pakistan She decided to forego the financial support she was about to get from the government as a protest.

She said that she had applied to get help from President Mamnoon Hussain’s Artist Welfare Fund and a cheque of rupees 500,000 is in the process of being issued to her but she will no longer accept it since the government has allowed an Indian tycoon in Pakistan with a no-police-inquiry visa.

“I cannot accept a dime from the government that entertains people from the very country that has been plotting against us our interests and our people,” she told The Express Tribune in a telephonic conversation while referring to Indian tycoon Sajjan Jindal’s recent arrival in Pakistan.

I don't know, I think its a stupid decision, not taking money wouldn't affect Ganja as usual. But that money is not personal property of Ganja or any other minister MNA or MPA ......... it's taxpayers money.

There used to be a lot of travel shows back then n people used to watch them enthusiastically, now the number has dried up, its the same with people all over the world, humans are attracted towards thrill to seek refuge from their daily boring routines, anyhow these crime shows must be stopped immediately as they serve no other purpose than to teach new innovative methods to commit crimes, criminal minds too scared seek enablement, these shows provide them hence emboldening them to take that first dangerous step, coming to our industry i remember dramas like dhuvaan, ABC, ahaan, naqab, wapsi n many others n ponder where has that genius gone.....

Many channels launched them idraak on ary,24 documentary of 24 channel,sona chandi on express all had bad trp channels simply replaced them

i remember dramas like dhuvaan, ABC, ahaan, naqab, wapsi n many others n ponder where has that genius gone...

No where we still have very good dramas but occasionally quality is compromised for commercial aspect of things

I think people just have a tendency to instantly dislike new things we should look at things more objectively quality of products isnt that bad even if compared to old dramas
