Mystery Move Of Army Units To Delhi! Coup Rehearsal?

January 16 , Is it?

Pretty scary .. even more units were seen moving towards the Capital a week later.

People got panicky , then they realised it was for the Republic Day Parade.;)

Or maybe the super enthusiastic troops started their Republic Day extravaganza 10 days in advance!!!

. . .
So even if it is assumed that it was a coup attempt, what will be the likely outcome. Will the other formation commanders go along with the coup leaders? Will IAF & IA join in?...highly unlikely. Most probably they would have just controlled Delhi and after that surrended or decimated.

No interest in interfering with govt: Indian Army | Firstpost

The Indian Army has rubbished a media report which stated that confusion was sparked off by the movement of two army units towards the national capital saying that they had no interest in interfering with the Indian government.

“The Indian Army is a national army and we have no interest in interfering with the Indian government,” a statement issued by the Indian Army reported Times Now.

The Indian Army said the troop movement was a standard procedure. Reuters
The army said the movement of the two units, a mechanised infantry unit and a paratrooper unit, were operational practices carried out as per their standard operating procedures.

The Prime Minister’s office has also denied the report and refused to comment further on it.

A report today stated that the movement of two army units towards the national capital on the night on 16 January, the same day that the Army chief approached the Supreme Court over his date of birth controversy, had sparked off confusion in political and bureaucratic circles. The army has dismissed the report and said the movement of the units was part of exercises to test their movement in fog.

The BJP has asked for the resignation of the Defence Minister or his removal by the Prime Minister. The party has accused the Defence Minister of letting the relations between the government and the army dipping to unprecedented levels.

two units, a mechanised infantry unit and a paratrooper unit, is enough for make a coup?

They have come down to such a level to ask resignation on a mere Paper report
The BJP asked for the Defence Minister's resignation NOT because of this paper report but his shenanigans after the previous report was leaked to the public and and lack of any action taken when the Chief reported the bribe.

I think the Army does not have to clarify this to the general public or for the wachko news paper that published this. They should explain their innocence to Government of INDIA and GoI should revoke the licence of these news papers that pubished this crap of accusing the army of a coup

Not only this, many critics panned Antony as a man of inaction that caused this mess (including ammunition shortage & TATRA) in the first place.

Its not that easy. Touching media is like raking a Hornest's Nest.

somebody please clarify?

Of course not, provided that they assume that other formation commanders will join in..Which is unlikely. Also IAF & IN should be on board... again highly unlikely. Also also if push comes to shove , GoI can direct CRPF, ITBP, Assam Rifles and other individual police forces to move against Army formations.

I think he should resign for not showing the General the Exit Door soon after the Age Row.................
