Temple says Sri Varatharaja Perumal temple in Tamil. I am assuming some chettiar from Madras (Chennai) area got inspired from the same name temple in Kanchipuram in South India. They are my home state people nonetheless! Some of our family friends have very distant relatives there (in Burma).

From what I have heard, local Burmese are also very involved with this temple. Wonderful to hear!

Nice pictures!

We have a aactive Tamil community before 1961. After the military coup Indian Tamils were deported. If not we would have had a very active Tamil community over there on the lines of Malaysia.
Its surprising we till have tamil communities over there.
Karaikudi Chettayar palaces are full of Burma Taeks woods. Even my great grandfather earned his income in Burma.

Yes yes I have heard of this. Maybe there can now be some better reconciliation with Ms. ASSK now at the helm. There are apparently many Tamils still waiting to return to Burma to rekindle their connections with what they see as their home:

Burmese Indians still number around 1 million, or 2% of the population:

From what I have heard they have integrated in Burma strongly now, many of the younger ones do not speak Tamil etc....but they still keep their culture alive. Hopefully cultural contact with India will increase now with Burma opening up and getting closer to India.

Even with ASSK at the helm, I do not see much change in ground realities. She wont change drastically and invite the wrath of the military.
