Bagan is an ancient city located in the Mandalay Region of Burma (Myanmar). From the 9th to 13th centuries, the city was the capital of the Kingdom of Pagan, the first kingdom to unify the regions that would later constitute modern Myanmar. During the kingdom's height between the 11th and 13th centuries, over 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries were constructed in the Bagan plains alone, of which the remains of over 2200 temples and pagodas still survive to the present day.

Why Myanmar has so many beautiful places is becuase there is no overcrowding unlike in India and Bangladesh....Myanmar is such a beautiful country.
I remember the top gear episode where they visited. They were very clear to say it is simply the most beautiful, no where else compares!
I hope to visit one day, I think it needs a full decent vacation by itself....I will not dilute by visiting other countries . The buddhist pagodas especially...and of course the natural beauty (often they are combined).
Also there is a South Indian style temple in Yangon that I have heard about:
I watched a very nice documentary on Burma some years back....what really intrigued me is that a lot of the people wear the "thanaka" paste on their faces. It reminded me of the sandalwood paste we use in parts of south India for similar purposes.
Burmese people are also very friendly and welcoming..wonderful people!
I always wanted to ask @Aung Zaya , is is offending to use Burma/Burmese instead of Myanmar/Myanmarese? In my family we have always used the former in our many stories we have about this wonderful land.
