What's new

My boyfriend told me he comes from a small town in China, so I went there and..

The only thing superior is our comprehension abilities. Since the Chinese members here have repeatedly shown zero comprehension of what the American public want in housing even when I post it over and over and over.

Please repeat this to get a grasp of the facts:

The US is not China. China is not the US.
The US is not China. China is not the US.
The US is not China. China is not the US.
The US is not China. China is not the US.
The US is not China. China is not the US.

Some of the things you like...we don't like...and some of what we like...you don't like.
Wow how hard is this to comprehend???

Around 120 years ago Americans were happy living in dense cities..however attitudes changed after WW2 when Americans started making enough income to be more self-reliant.

80 PERCENT OF AMERICANS PREFER SINGLE-FAMILY HOMEOWNERSHIP

I'm struggling to figure out what part of the above sentence are you guys not understanding? i've posted it like 5 times and you still can't grasp it. You keep going back to how Americans should live in dense old cities.
You're mistaken. I don't question why Americans choose single family homes. That's your freedom.

Although I don't like living in the countryside and suburbs, if I can own a single family house in the city, I can't refuse it.

I'm just questioning your superior. I'm just telling you that Chinese people can go to the countryside and choose single family houses, which are cheaper than living in the city.

It's almost the mentality, Chinese suburbs and countries are way more well connected with urban cities with HRS and subways, but Chinese still prefer to live in the urban city , even with the same money for them to buy an apartment in the city can give them a big single house in the suburbs. Every Beinger who owns an apartment in Beijing can sell their apartments and the money can easily buy a luxury big single house in US.

Where are you getting superior?

This thread is a bunch of pooh-poohing the US for not having big cities like China or HSR.

When I say that Americans are not Chinese and simply don't want to live like that anymore..you suddenly take that as thinking we are superior.

If you keep getting offended by the simple answer then stop asking the question.

Some people like vanilla ice cream..some people like strawberry. Why are you repeatedly trying to force people to like the flavor you like? I don't get it.

You: Your country should eat more vanilla ice cream because we think it is the best.
Me: Well actually most people here prefer strawberry
You: You are all crazy..you should be switching to vanilla. I'm sure most people would prefer vanilla. Look how great it tastes!!
Me: Well we used to eat a lot of vanilla but now we just prefer strawberry.
You: Oh thinking you are superior eh?
Me: WTF???

With that crappy infras and terrible rats and garbage issues, I would not like to live in the cities in US either.

US has a lot of hype. Not every city in US has a skyscrapers .
Skyscrapers can not explain too many problems. In fact, the Chinese government is also restricting the construction of skyscrapers.

The biggest hype in western countries comes from the real per capita income concealed by taxes and distribution methods.

This is a job advertisement of a Romanian company I saw the day before yesterday when I inquired about the qualifications of an Eastern European customer. 2200 to 2500 Lei (450 to 500 dollars) per month after tax. It is impossible for Chinese enterprises to recruit with such low wages, because it is impossible to recruit workers.

This shows that the real income of Romanians is lower than that of Chinese. However, Romania's per capita GDP is US $14900, which is higher than China's per capita GDP of US $12600. This shows that there is a big gap between the two countries in terms of tax and distribution methods.

Stop acting like a perpetual 8 year old clown.

There's 20,000 cities in the US and you just want to focus on the ones with the oldest infrastructure.

You argument isn't about cities at all.

You just want to harp on and on and on and on about our oldest ones as if 99% of the our country lives in them. When I tell you that we don't..you get all angry and say we should live in those old cities (completely ignoring our newer cities).

When I say we have moved on to prefer single family living..you get frustrated.

When I give you an example of a city that people like to live in..like Cupertino..you just ignore it and go right back to a place like NYC over and over and over and over and over.

You are 100 years too late to play some game about how magnificent your biggest cities look like compare to ours. Get over it. NYC isn't going to tear things down like you guys did in Shanghai. Companies like Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Tesla didn't build some tall building in NYC and slap their names on the side such as companies like Chrysler did in the 1920s. If it was 100 years ago they likely would have...but not today as there just isn't a demand for it. Instead they have put them in less dense areas where they know it will be more appealing to their employees.

I'm sorry China didn't have its heyday in city building back when we were doing it. You are just showing up for a race ran 100 years ago.

These guys do not know what it is like living in your own domain. They do not live on lands they own, only a long term lease from the government and they had to try to convince Americans that is the better way. They do not know what it is like to feel grass on one's feet, or go into the garage and tinker with your own devices, or get into your own vehicle and go anywhere you want.

Feels like heaven, you feel alive. I live in Kashmir and we live on mountain which has small hills on it. You feel free and happy and not stuck inside a building, you have own land, can do gardening, have own animals, plant a tree, dig own well. Just amazing.

LOL, keep your cool, I never lose it. you just can accept that your cities are falling apart and infras are in a mess, even your government admits it and is trying to fix it, but I highly doubt it can be successful though.

I think there are some problems with Beijing Walker's English expression ability. You have never understood what he wants to say.

Beijing Walker means that the urban infrastructure in the USA is very poor, so American talents live in the suburbs and rural areas (in the Chinese concept, the suburb should not be more than 20 minutes' drive from the city. The farther place should be the countryside).

And you are putting the cause and the result upside down. You think that Americans like to live in the countryside, so leads to the deterioration of urban infrastructure.

If we want to judge who is right between you and Beijing walker. I suggest going to Mima apartment in Manhattan to investigate and ask if the residents here are willing to exchange their apartment for a single family villa from the central canyon area of California.

Of course, if you go to apartments in Detroit and St. Louis to investigate. The result will be completely different.

So all 20,000 of our cities are falling apart eh?

Or just the oldest ones that were built up in the late 1800's to pre WW2 with a style of housing 80% of the US doesn't want to live in anymore. To a point where those cities demographics have shifted towards the "have nots" who can not afford to live in the places where 80% of the US wants to live...causing a city budget crisis.

All the cities that matter to US economy desperately need some upgrade, do you agree? Do New York , Boston, LA... contribute to US economy? are you really ready to give them up? New York alone accounts for 8% of US total GPD, a share no Chinese cities reach up to in China's total GDP share. Shanghai's GDP only acounts for 3.6% of China's.

I honestly have never ever heard of this place and I had to do a google search, and even on google, all I can find is just one sentence...Damn, suddenly realize that there are so many cities in China I don't even know they exist and I am actually often praised by many for my extensive knowledge in geography.

Sometimes I feel it's the same for Canada. I once accidentally got conjoined to an IP adress in a city over a hundred and thirty miles from Toronto. I can't even remember the name.

When I looked it up online I found nothing. I think that town literally had only a few hundred people at the most.

Your quarrel with Beijing walker is really boring.

Human nature is to pursue a better environment and life. The blue sky and white clouds are beautiful, the bustling streets are beautiful, walking with deer is beautiful, and enjoying convenient transportation is also beautiful.

When making a choice, human beings will make a comprehensive consideration, not only considering the two variables of apartment or single family house.

Just as the residents of Mima apartment in New York will not be willing to exchange their apartments for the single family residence in brownville, New York. And brownville residents would not be willing to exchange apartments in Detroit.

Again you don't realize this is not 1900 where almost all of the headquarters of big businesses were in major cities. I've shown you examples from some of the most biggest and highest profile companies in the US and how they are not located in major cities anymore...but as usual you chose to completely ignore it and go right back to your argument that they should be in places like NYC. Why should they be???

Places like NYC still have a big share of power players...but their share is not going up...it is going down.

Hey look man, I get the pride you have in Chinese infrastructure - it is legitimate. If americans built a bullet train network and metro network - they too will be filling up internet forums boasting about it.

But if you want americans to think they are living a poor life - atleast the ones who come here to forums like these (i assume middle to upper middle class) - its a real hard sell.

I too live in a suburban house - 3200 sqft - which does not include an additional and nearly 1500 sq ft basement btw. And a two car garage with backyard and front yard. I have a gigabit speed internet and work from home. The electricity, sewage all work. I do have an whole house filter because water taste is not great.

Now do i have some infrastructural disadvantages ? yes sure - i have to drive for every little thing from milk to bread. You cannot send your 12 year old down the street to buy some milk because he needs to drive. Maybe we buy too much to save on trips and end up fat.

Also the taxes are way too high - if you include federal, state, county, real estate, school etc.

But do you want me to feel poor ? i find that hard to accept with such a big house , cars, garage, high quality internet, electricity etc.

it is possible that you still judge me as poor but you will find it hard to convince atleast 50-60% americans with similiar lifestyles that they are poor.

One day i will visit china and i will do an unbiased comparison.
