But I think Indian and Pakistani members can agree on one point atleast. It's about Bangladeshis. Jo apane desh (Pakistan)ke ho nahi paye wo hindustan ke kya ho payenge :welcome:

So who were the ~90,000 POWs that Indian troops captured in the erstwhile East Pakistan? They were flown there from Pakistan especially for the surrender ceremony, eh?

@ Bhai, many a time it was said that regular or fighting troops were only 40 to 46 thousands others were para-military forces , rangers, scouts, civil officials their families.

@ Infact, Pakistan Army had only 3 Divisions. How many soldiers are there in a Divisions ? 9 Infantry Battalions plus other support Battalions say 3 more, so it is 12 in total. 12 Battalion x 1000= 12,000 Thousands so 3 Divisions x 12,000= 36,000. Besides they have some Airforce and Navy that's all.

so wait..you are saying all those para military forces would not have fought against India? Strange

@ There are gulf of difference between regular troops and para-military force. Para-military force what they have only one 303 British made rifle ??? What they can do, only to guard the military installations against sabotage ?????

So it ultimately boils down to one simple question.
Could BD have won its freedom without India ?
yes or no

Here is a more detailed breakdown of those ~90000 POWs. And FYI, your number of 36K is still far lees than the number of only army POWs.
India took approximately 90,000 prisoners of war, including Pakistani soldiers and their East Pakistani civilian supporters. 79,676 prisoners were uniformed personnel, of which 55,692 were Army, 16,354 Paramilitary, 5,296 Police, 1000 Navy and 800 PAF.[65] The remaining prisoners were civilians – either family members of the military personnel or collaborators (razakars). The Hamoodur Rahman Commission report instituted by Pakistan lists the Pakistani POWs as follows:

Branch Number of captured Pakistani POWs

Army 54,154
Navy 1,381
Air Force 833
Paramilitary including police 22,000
Civilian personnel 12,000
Total: 90,368
For what it matters, it was still a shameful surrender for Pak forces and losing a large chunk of their land.

Just FYI, one doesnt fight wars on equal terms.

So it ultimately boils down to one simple question.

yes or no

@ No ! Never !

@ But still I will say even with the support of Indian Army if Pakistan Army could have determined to fight till the last then it would have taken more six months.

@ Be practical my dear friend, Pakistan Army also had substential number of support among the Bengalese. There were about more than 70,000 Razakars, Al-Badre and Al-Sams well dedicated. Besisdes whole Baharis lot approximately 20 lacs and Tribal people approximately 3 lacs and whole elements of Brigradier Lal Denga of Mizo and other elements of Manipuri elements whole heartedly supported Pakistani cause. It was a question of their existance. Moreso, at that time Pakistan had very good relation with Burma.

@ But the question was most of the "Muhajir elements" of Pakistan Army senior officer lots completely lost their will to fight and morale. They did not find any justification to sacrifice their life for the cause of Eastern front.

@ As per my judgement most of the areas of East Pakistan was still within the control of Pakistan Army.

1. Nothing serious happened in Rangpur-Dinajpur Sector. Pakistan Army just tactically withdrawn upto Nilphamari-Dinajpur line. The whole Brigade was intact.

2. In Bogra-Rajshahi Sector Pakistan Army including the whole Division (2 x Brigrade) concentrated at Noagaon and Natore. Few elements of Indian Army could cut off Rangpur- Bogra Road but they could very well fight independently. Some tank elements of Pakistan army crossed over to Southern Sector and joined with Division of Jessore.

3. In Jessore-Khulna Sector, the Divisional HQ with some elements withdrew to Magura but the main 2 fighting Brigade safely withdrew on the outskirt of Khulna City and they made a formidable defence. Although the communication between the Division HQ was cut off. The Indians after several attack decided to by pass Khulna Sector.

4. In Sylhet Sector, Pakistanis were fighting well and it was still within their control. In Sunamganj, there were only Razakars, Al-Badre and Bengali police were fighting. No Pakistan troops were there. These elements continued to fight even after the surrender of Pakistani forces on 16 December 1971. They surrendered on 18 Dcember 1971. Well Sylhet was cut off from Bramonbaria and Moulvi Bazar.

5. In Akhaura-Narsindi area, here the Indian army could made some progress but Comilla and Chittagong was still intact. The Indians were still on the other side of the river Meghna. Some troops could reach this side by heli-landing.

6. The only major defeat the Pakistani Army received at the Momensingh Sector. Here this Pakistani Brigrade was completely destroyed. The successful para dropping at Tangail completely demoralised the Pakistani troops. But in the true sense this para-dropping was a complete failure considerating the marshy land of Bangladesh. Most of the guns were dropped on the pond and marshy land. The main fighting force of 101 Communication Zone was still far a way from Dhaka. You just cannot capture Dhaka with only 1 Para Battalion.

7. Finally, I would say in the true sense hardly Indian army fought with the Pakistan Army. In some places like Kamalpur, Phulbari(Bogra) and Khulna a serious fighting took place but Indian army were defeated and there were many casualties. Since than Indian Army decided not to fight rather by pass all these strong positions and move to Dhaka.

But I think Indian and Pakistani members can agree on one point atleast. It's about Bangladeshis. Jo apane desh (Pakistan)ke ho nahi paye wo hindustan ke kya ho payenge :welcome:
my dear ,who willingly would like to join India
