buddhism came about as reaction to the prevalent culture of india... sadly, much of the prevalent culture now is same as then... economic oppression, cultural oppression, turning modern components ( like schools/colleges ) into variation of older oppressions etc... no, despite the "national emblem" and the "blue wheel", the indian establishment does not really acknowlege buddhism.
