Can any religion claim to control the thinking of the entire human population? No? Then why should Muslims try to do that? Their religion teaches them better. You are asking a legitimate question but missing the whole point about Islam like most of the people do.
According to Islam, Allah (GOD) is omnipresent, omniscient and penetrates every bit of matter, he knows what we think, that is why "Niyyah" or intention is a very important concept in Islam. in this frame of thoughts, yes he controls all human thinking, no religion can do that. (Although Scientology and company might try!). Which leads to your second question that will not fit in either.
For your last point. history of the Muslim civilization tells us that they were true pioneers of most if not all of those points or human attributes.
The real message that Islam conveys with its name as something inherent to it, to humanity and to every form of life on earth is of peace and harmony on many levels starting amongst humanity and ascending through the cosmos to the universe itself. Everything in there from 0 to the infinite is subject to some higher force or another that "dictates" , I prefer- regulates - its behavior trough some rule or law or a multitude of them. Now this is what Muslims are trying to tell the world about the message of Islam,that is to surrender ones fate to the creator.willingly, to be able to live in harmony with everything and everyone. It is not like anyone has a choice, this is the true way of life (only semantics are the problem here, and media conditioning tags), so when one understands the true context one knows he is a Muslim too, the only difference lies in the choice of either accepting reality or refusing it . Notice that reality itself is not affected with the choice, so everyone is a Muslim in reality, all these conflicts and wars are on a human level, and affects mostly humans and earth somehow, and are mainly due to the animal instinct not being harnessed yet. Islam's Islam holly book conveys a message that looks sounds and feels like a best practice manual or tutorial for humans to help them out in controlling and regulating their overwhelming animalistic instincts for their own good in general summarized in "GOD is merciful".
Since reality of the universe does not change eventhough it is dynamic, humans not listening or not trying to understand the essence of this message are paying dearly for their ignorance, I should add, in turn, buy races or groups throughout human history, one day it was the Jews, another time it was the Christians , the Hindus or others... all of it to humans dismay.
Blaming Muslims is foolish, it is the whole human race that is to blame.

Even if they follow then things would be the same. In some countries , governments let to violate their own constitution and international conventions and the excuse is given as security. Racism is a problem which people doesn't want to accept.
