What's new

Muslims in America, Christians in Pakistan?

You are right but in the American cases when caught the culprits are brought to justice. Hate crime is a federal offense and nobody can get away from the feds once caught. Whereas in Pakistan the poor people not only have their homes destroyed but cannot even get some sort of justice because half the time the government is fcking involved in the sht that goes down.

In this particular case some politicians in Pakistan wanted the land the Christians were living on so they stirred up a rumor about blasphemy and the sheep did the work for them. Of course you do not have to believe me that is on you but all will be clear if you see who gets the land when all is done.

dude iam not goingto argue with you the KEYWORD is "WHEN CAUGHT" they never did So i rest my case and you are right about pakistan and iam not defending the land Grabbers and the mob But Dont compare it with other muslims in america whenthey are killed and beaten and subjected to mental torch-er in a worse way then in pakistan Do you see any anti christians adsin pakistan but you sure do see anti muslim islamophobic AD like i said YOU ARE RIGHT

Well the government cannot just grab random people here without proof you know. That is why I said these are two completely seperate issues and yeah you are right there are no anti christian ads in Pakistan but the blasphemy law which btw is the biggest blasphemy in Pakistan itself more than makes up for it.

Oh yeah which country, go ahead and bring the written law for said nation. You said Islamic republic right, that means only Iran or Pakistan. So please enlighten me which law you speak of.

I once tried to slip a comment on this very same site, where I omitted any reference to the word Islam, when it didn't pass the censorship.

So, 'Islamist extremist ideology' became 'state religion'.

'Power hungry and greedy mullahs and imams' became 'intolerant clergy comparable to radical Christian preachers'

Still, it didn't go through.

Maybe I was still too Islamophobic in my way of expressing my thoughts?

As someone residing in the States, do you recognize some elements, as presented by the writer?

LOL!!! ET is full of Anti-Pak & Anti-Islam blogs/articles, so it's stupid that you are blaming them Islamic extremists. RE: your post i guess it's right discarded not because you use Islam but because you know nothing about Pakistan's society & ground realities, and always watch Pakistan from Islamophobic lenses.

BTW, why you don't select correct flag?

it was during Zia-ul-Haq's regime in Pakistan......Women were highly victimized and laws were very biased favoring men

He is talking about right now, so bring the law from right now that says that. If there is none (which btw there isn't) than perhaps he should stfu.

There are 101% chances of this, after all here he tried to show that his argument was pearl of wisdom :)

Supreme court does not allow cow slaughter, illegal beef import?
Why break the laws of the land and be an offender?
Offenders have no choice but the punishment.

Guys, guys, keep it civil. I know some of you guys -Indians and Pakistanis- aren't each others' biggest fans, but try to restrain yourself.

To 'justify' is to make right, as in saying that what we are doing have some kind of sanctions and discrimination against Muslims in America. Such is in no way sanctioned by anyone in any position of leadership -- political and moral.

Relativism have become conveniently negative when in reality it is necessary to give perspectives. It is conveniently negative when it is applied against US where principles are presented as pure black/white issues. But when Americans point out the same behaviors and criticize them, those same principles are repackaged as filled with shades of grey and that is wrong for Americans to see things in black/white or good/evil contexts.

When Christians are persecuted in Muslim countries to the extent that their homes are destroyed and families separated, the goal is to lower the US to that level of barbarity by equating a few bigoted insults by a few Americans through that black/white lens. An insult is just as bad as a hanging. One or a few loudmouth bigoted Americans is just the same as an angry mob of hundreds of Muslims.

Like it or not, the vast majority of Americans do not fall for this line of thinking. They are not as gullible as the article's writer would like US to be when he said he is ashamed of the US.

There are things in life that I am:

- Proud of...
- Not so proud of...
- Not merely 'not proud of' but outright ashamed of...

Fortunately for me personally, the last I can count on one hand. No different for a country and its society. The US have done many things that were outright shameful as well as many more things to be proud of.

The US may be 'not proud' of how some Muslims in America are treated and we do condemn such acts. However, Americans should not be ashamed of ourselves because we do live with a much higher standards and such acts are judged as aberration based upon those higher standards.

Great post, way better than most of the posts hereafter. I agree with your observations.

This is called going around the bushes.

Whether the newspaper has a different opinion on the role and place of religion in your society, and the direction the country should be headed is an entirely different matter.

I was hoping to get some different perspectives on the column, and how the author wrongfully or rightfully compares the plight of minorities in your society with the US.

You seem to disagree with my assessment. Yet you did not care to provide an alternative narrative, or write some personal experiences that contradict the popular perception. But you did manage to thank the second poster on the wrong assumption that I was an Islamophobe. It was sarcasm, in case you didn't notice...

BTW, why you don't select correct flag?

Sorry dude, I stand by my flags, whether you like it or not.

Anything else I can help you with? Maybe some India bashing on another forum? Cause there is so little hatred that I can vent on this forum with its regulation and restrictions.....

Now hush, back on topic, you go...

.
Now, it could be that I'm ignorant about the matter. That my perception of American society is too brightly painted. Do you guys think that the comparison the American writer makes is in someway justified in relation to the plight of Christians in Pakistan? Do you recognize the picture that has been portrayed, of grave injustices against the Muslims in the US, that is something that resembles the situation in Pakistan?

Given the ground reality that I am familiar with regarding the US, I find this type of cultural relativism very dangerous. It basically says your society is not as dire as it seems, because there are others in the world that indulge in similar disgraceful acts, so you do not need take decisive and immediate action to correct your society.

Of course others are most welcome to comment in relation to the minority question in either or both countries. Maybe I portrayed a too grim picture of Pakistan, and I need to be corrected? Share some insights.

The United States along with other industrialized nations have very strong and enforceable laws. And with a highly efficient police force unlike that of most third world nations.

And not only the law, but they ensure human rights and most importantly freedom under a strong government regime. There has to be a delicate balance between those. And that is the spirit of democracy.

That is unless of-course one is living in a totalitarian state.

So is the writer justified in comparing Pakistan to America? In my opinion, no. And I honestly wouldn't compare my country to any industrialized nation for that matter. In fact, my country is burning right now!

Reality is not so simple

@Solomon2 :lol:

I swear to God, that I posted it twice, the same text that you have posted now, and to my surprise it is placed now. You sure you don't have some influential, Zionist powers, I can't explain it otherwise, or there was some dickhead in the morning that is replaced by someone more open minded now.... :cheesy:

Some of you guys seem to think that the source is biased against Muslims - while in fact the column was posted here originally: Muslims in America, Christians in Pakistan : Ethan Casey And it's actually not against the 'Muslims', on the contrary, it's written as a defense of 'Muslims' by pointing to the American setting and highlighting the wrongs there.

Anyway, here is what Human Rights Watch has to say about the respected countries:

United States

The United States has a vibrant civil society and media that enjoy strong constitutional protections. The victims of abuse are typically the weakest and most vulnerable in US society: immigrants, racial and ethnic minorities, children, the elderly, the poor, and prisoners.

Pakistan

Pakistan had a turbulent year in 2012, with the judicial ouster of Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, attacks on civilians by militant groups, growing electricity shortages, rising food and fuel prices, and continuing political dominance of the military, which operates with almost complete impunity. Religious minorities continued to face insecurity and persecution as the government failed to provide protection to those threatened or to hold extremists accountable. Islamist militant groups continued to target and kill Shia Muslims—particularly from the Hazara community—with impunity. In September, the southwestern province of Balochistan experienced massive flooding for the third year running, displacing some 700,000 people.
