And you'd be breaking the law. I wouldn't fire her, instead I would implement a strict dress code company wide, with at least a month's head notice to figure of any personal needs of employees. There is a better way to fix this issue, other than giving employees false choices.
In normal cases you would be right but in this case,honesty is a must in my book.
Why not apply in the Hijab,is it because she knew that she would never get the job?
I have fired many people for being dishonest,i had to pay costs but that doesnt matter in such a case.

No... i don't pretend to be anything other than of Pakistani background... when asked or if it comes up... i proudly sawnim of Pakistani background.... I'm just saying that others precieve me as not being south Asians or not being Muslim... while ironically my Indian friends cl get confused as muslims because of there looks... yet they mostly promote islamaphobia ... as on this site... yet they get the brunt off the backlash... that's all that i meant... :)

It is up to the employer to seek out this sort of information, the employee has no legal or moral obligation to tell what he/she believes to a potential employer.

There are better ways to deal with such situations, find another excuse to fire her, if you're going to fire her. Maybe come to a compromise over the issue, simply firing her for such a thing is, in my opinion, completely and utterly ridiculous.

Again, the employer's fault for not doing his due diligence, so in the article's case, I don't believe that it is deception at all.
In every interview form it is written that if you intentionally hide information or some information comes to light fost getting a job you can be fired.

Your posts seem to condone the woman. "See how clever she is. She fooled the employer. Now he has no reason but to let her keep her job"

If she would have weared the hijab the first day,he wouldnt have hired her,she is at fault here.
She should have waited longer, and it was obviously not a necessity to wear it on the interview she should have asked about it.

He acted without using his head. He broke the law, when he fired her because she practiced her religious belief; that is a direct violation of the US constitution.

US constitution also gives him rights to choose his employees according to requirement of his work place.

Jews leave early in Friday's around the world because of the Sabbath...employers accommodate. Sikhs wear turbans and hidden daggers...employers accommodate....the hijab is the same.

All depend on the employers discretion.. This employer chose not to accomodtae any kind of religious symbolism displayed at his business from any employee.. It's his policy, If anybody wants to work under him adhere to that, Nobody is forcing them not to

This woman willfully chose to mislead, I bet for ulterior motives

Under Title VII you're both wrong: the employee is obliged to tell the employer that dress violation is for religious reasons, and the employer is obliged to hire her regardless of her religious garb, so the deception to get the job is acceptable under the law and she can't be fired for it.

Way to use a strong man argument, and no, that is not true in the US nor Canada. The employers has zero right to ask your about your political and religious beliefs, and can actually be fined if he/she does so.
