And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband's fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believers! turn ye all together towards Allah, that ye may attain Bliss.

So I woke up when he recited Istirja' (i.e. "Inna lillahi wa inna llaihi raji'un") as soon as he recognized me. I veiled my face with my head cover at once, and by Allah, we did not speak a single word, and I did not hear him saying any word besides his Istirja'. He dismounted from his camel and made it kneel down, putting his leg on its front legs and then I got up and rode on it. 5:59:462

Look its all about context.

Pagan Arabia buried their daughters alive, most likely had women flaunting around virtually naked most of the time. All that wierd pagan shit.

So this is a message for them to change that society.

And don't tell me about hadith, this is not verified and most likely altered. I don't care what Ibn bin Bukhari has to say even if he was best friends with the prophets best friend.

Quran is the de facto standard and nowhere does it explicitly say a niqab or hijab is needed. Just vague comments on how a woman should be dressed modestly outside.

I have nothing against modesty and its a good quality for a woman to have. But at the same time I believe in a society where a woman can choose what she wants to do. Nothing should be enforced.
