Saad,
Pakistani politicians deceive the nation and deceive the populace----. All this problem lies with the politicians----if you see progress during millitary regimeand negativity during civilian----then it the civilian part that needs to be blamed---.
For the one simple fact----pakistanis do not want to and do not know how to run A RELAY RACE----they hate to take the baton, and move forward----they would rather start from scratch every single time so that their predecessor doesnot get the credit for any good they have done in their time.
This is a standard pakistani habbit----one puts up the foundation and builds up on it---the next one comes in and tears up the foundation and starts his own game----a nation of fools running and round in circles small and large---living an illusion that only they can see.
1) Politicians are the mirror of the society. Its just random sampling statistically. YOu cant outsource your politicians to some other planet. If you look at the history, politicians all over the world made disastrous mistakes but learned from that. Hitler was a politicians too.
2) Military can do some quick fix with external help. They are quick, strong and decisive. But once they are too long in power will turn worse than politicians. After all everybody is the son of Pakistan.
3) Democracy could be very tedious, slow and corrupt. Yet, they can be voted out and fresh faces could be given a chance. The best thing about continuous democracy is that, you can filter out some bad apples along the line.
4) Democracy also provide, long lasting economic development with people's confidence.
5) From the above graph it is clear that, Pakistan's GDP growth rate proportionate to US handouts. It also proves that, Pakistan's economy stands on shallow ground. Pakistan has domestic savings rate below 14% so it needs external infusion to drive the economy forward. With that kind of domestic savings you cant have a GDP growth rate more than 2-3% a year. Thats harsh yet reality.
