Made in China trains look nice but stations made in India look old. No offence.

Its pathetic that inspite of Mumbai attacks the policemen still carries guns that belongs to museum than in the field.

I would disagree-these trains look ugly when compared to Bombardier/Hyundai Rotem-BEML/Alstom/Siemens/CAF trainsets used in other metro's in India.

I'm really happy for all those people who now have a more contemporary, and comfortable way to commute E-W routes. South Asia's financial and entertainment capital has seen the opening of many an infrastructure project over the past year - it started with the opening of the Eastern Freeway, then the state-of-the-art, award-winning Terminal (2) at CSIA, then line 1 of the Monorail system, the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR), and now, line 1 of the M.Metro system.

Govt announces quadrilateral rail project to connect metros
The government has outlined an ambitious plan formodernisation and revamping of railways, including a quadrilateral project linking the metros with high speed trains.

"Modernisation and revamping of railways is on top of the infrastructure agenda. My government will launch a Diamond Quadrilateral project of high-speed trains," President Pranab Mukherjee said on Monday, addressing the first joint sitting of Parliament after the recent Lok Sabha elections.

Diamond Quadrilateral project envisagesconnecting major metropolitan cities with high speed trains to reduce the travelling time between cities.

Currently there are seven routes, including Mumbai-Ahmedabad, Howrah-Haldia, New Delhi-Patna and Hyderabad-Chennai, where feasibility studies are being undertaken.

As far as the Mumbai-Ahmedabad sector is concerned, the experts from France and Japan are already conducting their feasibility studies.

"They are checking out whether it will be
viable to cover the distancebetween these two cities in an hour or so," a senior Railway Ministry official said.

A major part of the proposed 543 km Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Corridor passes through Gujarat. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the helm, it is expected that approvals will come faster, including acquisition of land for route and stations.

Besides plan for bullet trains at 350 km per hour speed, the national transporter is going ahead with semi-high speed train project between Delhi and Agra on the existing track.

As per the plan, a semi-high speed train is expected to run at 160km-200km speed per hour.

"We are hopeful that the semi-high speed train will be launched in Delhi-Agra sector by the year-end as work is going on full steam," the official said.

Fencing of tracks at certain stretches, provision of thick web switches, upgrading of signalling system and strengthening of the curves on tracks are being undertaken by Railways for the semi-high speed train on Delhi-Agra route.

Besides Delhi-Agra, railways will take up the semi-high speed train project on Delhi-Kanpur and Delhi-Chandigarh route also in phase wise.

While bullet trains require dedicated elevated track, semi-high speed trains will run on existing track.

"We have to carry out certain upgrading of tracks including fencing of certain areas to ensure that the trains run at a minimum of 160 km speed," he said.

Railways, which is also executing Dedicated Freight Corridor project for exclusive goods movement between Delhi and Mumbai and Delhi and Kolakata, expect it to be operational partly by 2017.

India is a poor country, functionality is more important than aesthetics. Once all the major tier 1 and tier 2 cities in India have efficient public transport system, the look and feel of the stations can be upgraded.

First of all, if you ever visited China you know how occupied those "ghost cities" are, they may lack the occupancy of old cities, but they are increasing by the year.

Second, there are definitely real ghost cities, but those are in bad places, like inner Mongolia and the like. The percentage is relatively small.

The reason western propaganda keep using the same cities is because it is in fact the same cities and others have been filling up.

Third, Chinese cities is still looking to expand the population of current old cities like Dalian, my home town from 6 to 8 million people. So more will actually move to the cities in the coming decades, and once the older cities are more or less full, the new cities will start to get full.

As to demand, it's a cycle, Chinese people get higher paying jobs by building new cities, they in turn have the financial power to move into these cities. New cities are built, and businesses move in, then comes the population. For example, Dalian has a new IT area that's bring jobs and new people, that's how it works.

People can't wait for buildings, what do you want them to do in the mean time? Live on the street?

it's a loaded topic, just look at how many lives in the cities compare to 20 years ago, how many will live in the cities within the next 20 years.

Compare to India and then it's apparent what our respective policies are doing.

Don't let emotions do the talking let's look at facts.

AHHhhh ... okay few quick points

Firstly when we talk about property, its demand and supply ... A builder will build when he see's the demand and immediate occupation or sale

China plans future cities (which are termed as ghost cities) and they remain partly unoccupied .... but as you said people start moving in later.

This strategy isnt possible here, because you cannot except builders to wait for years/ decade for the city to fill up. Its pure Economies .... they have to repay their bank loan, if they don't sell how will they payback ?

In china the govt supports the builders financial or the local government, thats not possible in India as construction is a private partnership where the govt cannot interfere.

Loan's for construction in India are taken at +15% from banks which needs to be repaid. Its around 7-8% in China too ... how do you think its financial economical viable option ? If not the builders, local govt in china are losing money.

As far as ghost cities are concern, they were primarily designed to accommodate the rural population movement into mainstream cities ... problem as property prices are too high for these people to afford

I would disagree-these trains look ugly when compared to Bombardier/Hyundai Rotem-BEML/Alstom/Siemens/CAF trainsets used in other metro's in India.

yes, but these chinese trains were chosen because they could carry the extra burden ... they .. i think have stainless steel flooring to coupe with extra load ... which bombay is famous for :p

The jap's want to sponsor the Bombay-Delhi high-speed rail ... seems like a safe bet .. if ticket costs can be kept around Rs.3000 including return ... people will prefer these
