Mujib's Search for the Fact about the Killing of Pakistan Army

Urdu was an alien language to the Bengali's who were the majority. Its a common trend all over the world to use the language of majority as national language.

When one is engaging in Cultural Imperialism - Yes !

Otherwise it was nothing more than malafide obstinacy of the Bengali Civil Society & the Political Elite alike who created hurdles for National Integration from day 1.

. .
Who exactly decided that ?

Urdu was understood even in Bengal at that time...even now almost all Bangladeshis on this forum can understand & converse in Urdu more or less. And so if a Bengali is going to put forth his language to be considered for the language of us all, then I'd want my native Punjabi to be given the same consideration, a Pashtun would want his & so on & so forth for the others. Therefore no other language made sense....not even in the least bit.

hahaha.....i can understand the sentiments but since i was not alive in 1971 i cannot tell u....i very rarely base my answers on second hand information .......in the case of India no language has actually been accepted as the national language.....despite the fact that bengalis or marathis or southis can speak Hindi properly....but majority population certainly does have a say....

The Bangladeshis on this forum doesn't represent the population. It took years of watching Hindi movie to understand basic Hindi/Urdu.

Israel adopted Hebrew .......

same thing goes with you, you should adopted bangla if you vote for adopting. The main fact is bengali people faced many discrimination, those discrimination later brought many issues. and we were the majority.

Isnt imposing Urdu on majority population of Pakistan a sign of Cultural Imperialism sir?

Our liberation war now became or from the beginning became a instrument of political capital . so unfortunately we will never know what happened in 1971. we should have form a independent committee to find out how many people died how many house were burn down who killed neutrally and situation of Bihari population during and after the liberation .now if supporter of two party's/in clash between two village fight they don't bother to kill each other so i think we didn't made any mistake taking revenge on Bihari people . we need to know both sides suffering to get a better picture .

Dude what you guys did was make Hindi to be the official language of Union i.e the Central Government !

We weren't even asking for that; the Quaid promised to the Bengalis that Bengali can be the Official Language of their Province as any other native tongue could be of any other Province of Pakistan but to weave together a National Identity lets go for a Non-Partisan language that we could all communicate in 'Urdu' !

Yes it would had we been imposing it on them; they could have their Bengali as their official language as could Sindh (as it does) have Sindhi & so on & so forth but for National Cohesion - Urdu, as our lingua franca, would serve the cause to bring us together as a Non-Partisan language of less than 6-9% native speakers in Pakistan that transcended our ethnic or linguistic identities.

Israel adopted Hebrew .......

Hebrew is Jews holy language, but Urdu is not holy language of Muslim. In fact Urdu is a epic failure, it failed to convert north India into Muslim majority.

Urdu was chosen as it was written in Arabic a respected language to Muslim, as we became independent on Islamic nationalism urdu was chosen . All the mother tung would be state language and Urdu and would be national language .

As @Armstrong already said, Urdu was selected because it wasn't associated with any ethnic group of Pakistan (except migrants) but still was an Indian language mostly associated with Muslims - Otherwise I think Punjabi is superior language, Pashtun think Pashtu is superior, Baluch & Sindhi think their language superior. I gave example of Isreal because it suites, Jews from all over the world came there who used to speak different languages but the agreed to adopt Hebrew for sake of nation.

Go read the speeches of Jinnah Sahib that he gave in Dhaka ! If your intelligensia & ours failed to develop our mother tongues as our provincial languages then its yours & ours fault not just one party's.

It this one sided blaming that irks me to no end.

Is there any country in the world now who imported there national language instead of choosing the language of majority?

It wasn't an imported language - We all were multi lingual & you don't end up with a lingua franca by importing one you do it after it has grown organically over there for centuries !

Had we been following your rationale, right now, us Punjabis being in the overwhelming majority reserve the right to make Punjabi the official language of Pakistan & yet we don't because we're not as self-centered as you lot who didn't give two hoots about National Cohesion !
