Dangerous and juvenile politics is what I would term it as. There must be something seriously wrong when a government is constantly trying to save its skin instead of governing and being in charge. It's a shame that some people fail to see this.
Now, let's talk about the crux of the problem which is being avoided in each conversation. The PML-N is arrogant and scared. It has already admitted that rigging took place during the elections. Instead of working together with political parties to address the problem it rather gave preference to a politics of confrontation. We wouldn't be in such a political turmoil had the PML-N chosen to adhere to a few simple and genuine demands of the aggrieved parties. PML-N "won" the elections and the aggrieved parties weren't going to take that away from them. Heck, the PML-N could have earned trust and admiration of the people. Besides, what on earth is wrong with overhauling a foul, corrupt and bogus electoral system which haunts us each election year? Why not fix it for once and all? Instead, NS chose to bully and make false promises with the aggrieved parties. The fierce protests and sit-ins were bound to happen.
The problem now is that the PML-N is going to extreme lengths to save face. The politics of reconciliation could have saved them embarrassment. I'm not slightly surprised though by Nawaz Sharif's actions. In fact, it was to be expected. This "PM" hasn't learnt a thing from the past. It's a darn shame.
