However, there’s one more very exciting new addition to JPNA 2: Fawad Khan! Rumour has it that the Pakistani hearthrob will be making a cameo in the film and needless to say, we can’t wait to see it.

The Humsafar actor will be one of the special guest appearances in JPNA 2, which include Sara Loren, Omer Shahzad and Mehwish Hayat.

Yash Raj Films (YRF) has teamed up with Zafar’s production house for an exclusive international theatrical distribution of his upcoming film, Teefa In Trouble, stated a press release.

Speaking about this iconic collaboration, Zafar said, “Today I feel deeply humbled to have a huge dream fulfilled. To take our cinema global in the best possible manner and to do it with a company that is not just a company but an idea that love transcends all.”

He continued, “My relationship with YRF goes back to 2010 when I signed up for Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, followed by Kill Dill. I have some of my best memories and experiences on those films.”

“But what is dreamlike is that the company he formed with so much love is now going to be spreading the same passion that we have tried to create in our first film to the entire world, making sure the film is seen globally. YRF will officially distribute the film in international markets. I can’t wait for the world to watch Teefa In Trouble!”

In a statement, YRF Vice President, Avtar Panesar said, “We at YRF share a strong and seasoned relationship with Ali Zafar having produced two movies and a music album with him; we’d like to think of YRF to be his home in India. It was a natural progression, taking that relationship to the next level with Ali as Producer with Teefa In Trouble. We have never distributed any film from Pakistani or from any other part of the world earlier. We’re looking forward to making this the first of many.”

Founded in 1970 by Bollywood’s ace producer, late Yash Chopra, YRF is regarded as one of India’s oldest and most respected story-tellers.

Teefa In Trouble stars Zafar and introduces Maya Ali to the silver screen. Directed by Ahsan Rahim, the film is set to release on July 20 across Pakistan and internationally.

Javed Sheikh is going full-on gangster in upcoming movie Jackpot!

The just-released trailer shows Sheikh in the role of "the don". Watch it here:

The film's producer, Khurram Riaz, described the film as "a musical comedy that revolves around a lottery ticket that lands itself in one character's coat.

"From there on it travels from Pakistan to Phuket, Thailand and back again to Pakistan, and with it travel other characters running after the lottery, from one country to another. That's why the name is Jackpot," he said.

The film was shot partly in Thailand, including Coral and James Bond islands — which is a first for a Pakistani film, according to Riaz.

Team Jackpot has roped in Indian cinematographer Anubhav Bansal and Shoaib Khan for direction. It has been written by Babar Kashmiri, the music director is Naveed Nashad and choreographer Sonu Dangerous.

The cast includes Javed Sheikh, Noor Hassan, Sanam Chaudhry, Inayat Khan, Reyhana Malhotra (India), Adnan Shah (Tipu), Sana Fukher, Faiza Khan, Sajan Abbas and Ismail Tara.

The film releases July 6.

SCREENGRAB

KARACHI: This year has witnessed a number of local releases and it looks like it’s not going to stop anytime soon. The Ali Zafar and Maya Ali-starrer Teefa in Trouble is set to hit screens on July 20 and we cannot wait to watch it. Taking cue from the recently released trailer, here is a list of five things to look forward to in Ahsan Rahim’s directorial film debut.

1. Women in action

teefa2-1529055155.jpg

SCREENGRAB

Unlike other Pakistani films, Teefa in Trouble does not only show the male lead in action but also shows a strong female figure taking matters into her own hands. Anya (Maya) can be seen drifting across roads and handling weapons on her own. She’s also often found smashing glass bottles on people’s heads.

2. Exotic locations

teefa1-1529055177.jpg

SCREENGRAB

The film is shot in Lahore while capturing the beauty of the Walled City perfectly. However, as Teefa (Ali) travels to Poland, the views are to die for. From cityscape to country-side shots, the film seems to be a picturesque one.

3. Music

teefa3-1529055195.jpg

SCREENGRAB

Now it’s no surprise that Ali excels in his forte of music and singing – which means you can expect really good music in Teefa in Trouble. There’s also a dance number in the film and surprisingly, it’s NOT an item number!

4. Drama and comedy

teefa5-1529055209.jpg

SCREENGRAB

No desi film is complete without some drama, however, Teefa in Trouble appears to comprise just the right amount. Ahsan seems to have conveyed his message in a very subtle fashion. Moreover, having Faisal Qureshi in the film means guaranteed fits of laughter.

5. Cast

teefa4-1529055220.jpg

SCREENGRAB

Since the teaser of Teefa in Trouble came out on February 22, the production house has been repeatedly revealing the actors that one can expect to see in the film. Apart from Ali, Maya and Faisal, Javed Sheikh, Asma Abbas, Simi Rahael, Nayyar Ejaz, Mehmood Aslam and Sofia Khan will be seen in titular roles. Tom Coulston who has worked in Hollywood films such as Skyfall and Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation is set to make his Pakistani film debut as Andy.

KARACHI: Social activist and transgender model Kami Sid has made headlines one too many times. From fashion shoots to short films, Sid has come a long way in a country where transgenders are often ill-treated.

After making it to Newport Beach Film Festival, her short film Rani has now been selected to be screened at Outfest Los Angeles Film Festival. This announcement was made by GrayScale Films via their Instagram handle.

Will 'Jackpot' be a stepping stone for local cinema or the one you trip over?

1732741-jackpot_cover-1528714787-402-640x480.jpg

KARACHI: Pakistani film releases have been on the rise. With numerous productions hitting screens every year, audiences are often left confused as to which one they should spend money on. While it’s a good thing for our budding local cinema, it does seems like every Tom, Dick and Harry has now come forth with their film.

Another local release, Jackpot stars Javed Sheikh, Sanam Chaudhry and Noor Hassan, and will be hitting screens this summer. Other cast members include Ismail Tara, Sana Fakhar and Adnan Shah Tipu.

Box Office (Day 2):
‘7 Din Mohabbat In’ and ‘Azaadi’ grow significantly, as others follow suit

It is a clash of the titans as four mega-budget Pakistani films – 7 Din Mohabbat In, Azaadi, Na Band Na Baraati, and Wajood – battle it out at the box office along with three Hollywood biggies (Jurassic World, Hereditary, and Ocean’s 8) this Eid-ul-Fitr.

The Eid festival started on an auspicious note for Pakistani films, and the winning streak continued on the second day. All local releases saw a significant growth on day two, with a collective rise of more than 40%. The combined single-day collections of all Pakistani releases touched the 4.45 crore mark on Eid Day 2.

Talking about the buzziest film of the festival, 7 Din Mohabbat In continued leading the race with a rise of 33% on the second day. Mahira Khan and Sheheryar Munawar starer rom-com grossed around 1.5 crore on Day 1 and added 2.0 crore on Day 2, taking its two-day gross to 3.5 crore. The Mahira Khan factor is definitely creating its magic at the box office.

Moammar Rana and Sonya Hussyn starer Azaadi retained its position as it grew remarkably (38%) on the second day. The action movie based on the Kashmir independence raked in around 1.05 crore on Day 1 and added 1.45 crore on Day 2, bringing its two-day gross to the mark of 2.5 crore.

Although Javed Sheikh’s directorial comeback Wajood grew by 40% on the second day, it failed to create a mark on the box office and lagged significantly behind other releases. The Danish Taimoor starer collected 50 lac on Day 1 and added 70 lac on Day 2, making its two-day gross 1.2 crore.

The fourth and last local release, Na Band Na Barati, remained a disaster as it could earn 40-45 lac in two days only.

The second-day winner is the Hollywood smasher Jurassic World which saw a stupendous growth of more than 45%. The film earned 1.4 crore on Day 1 and 2.05 crore on Day 2, bringing its two-gross to 3.45 crore mark, lying behind 7 Din Mohabbat In by only a small margin.

Here is the summary of two-day collections of local Eid releases as well as Jurrasic World.

7 Din Mohabbat In: 3.50 crore
Jurassic World: 3.45 crore
Azaadi: 2.50 crore
Wajood: 1.20 crore
Na Band Na Barati: 40-45 lac

It is also worth noting that Bollywood tentpole Race 3‘s release has been postponed for one week. If it were released on Eid, it would have impacted the box office dynamics crucially.

Teefa in Trouble’s first music release takes place in Lahore
June 25, 2018

The first song ‘Item Number’ from the upcoming Ahsan Rahim film was unveiled at a glitzy ceremony, attended by the likes of Fawad Khan, Hadiqa Kiani, Ali Azmat and many more.

Fawad Khan, seen here with Ali Zafar and Maya Ali, speaking onstage during the music launch of Teefa in Trouble in Lahore.

The film and music fraternity, along with Ali Zafar’s family and friends were seated front row for Teefa in Trouble’s music launch in Lahore this past week. One could see Fawad Khan, Ali Azmat, Resham, Hadiqa Kiani and others in attendance. All of whom had come to support Zafar with the film that is being touted to have many firsts.

It is the first Pakistani film shot in the rather far locality of Poland, Warsaw. It will also be the directorial debut of Ahsan Rahim, who has done many of Ali Zafar’s music videos but never a film.

Rahim has previously worked on videos such as ‘Laga Re’ and ‘Qismat Apnay Haat Mein’ by Shehzad Roy, ‘Sajania’ by Ali Zafar, ‘Preeto’ by Abrar ul Haq and the popular Ufone ads. It is also Diyar-e-Dil favourite, Maya Ali’s first film and Ali Zafar’s, who was last seen on the big screen in the Shah Rukh Khan, Alia Bhatt-starrer, Dear Zindagi. While none of his movies have been Pakistani before this, he has made relations across the border. Shaad Ali, who directed Zafar’s Kill Dil also came from India for the launch.

The song they launched this past week is titled ‘Item Number’ which is a play on what they have become to movies from this part of the world. Naqash Haider who’s done the music said, “When Ali called me and discussed the idea of an item number, the first thing that came to my mind: ‘Sheila ki Jawani’? But he had a completely different take on it when he made me hear the lyrics he had written and I was in fits; that’s what was really exciting for me. It’s an item number with a twist!” said Naqash Haider. ‘Item Number’ has been (written and) sung by Ali Zafar who is joined on the song by singing sensation Aima Baig.

333526_8555819_updates.jpg

Singer-songwriter Hadiqa Kiani was also present at the launch

Munib Nawaz, host for the night, launched proceedings by saying – “is it an item number or is it not?” which elicited a giggle or two from Maya Ali. Being dubbed “the biggest non item number ever”, the lyrics say “mein item number nahee karoon gi, tu ne jo karna hai kar waalay” and in reply “tu dance nahee khul ke karay gee tou cinema mein picture kaisay chalay gi”.

The song plays on how crucial some people consider the infamous item number for a movie’s success. Slowly however, many actors have started taking a stand against being referred to as an ‘item’, and being used to attract largely-male audiences to theatres. These songs often do nothing to advance the plot and possibly alienate a significant number of viewers. There was a long time where item numbers were considered almost ‘mandatory’ which is why the lyrics of the song hit home. It’s an upbeat, dance-y song with a slick production and Nabila’s given Ali and Maya an edgy look unlike what either of them have looked like recently. The song’s video has been choreographed by Feroz Khan, who choreographed ‘Maa Da Laadla’ from Dostana and ‘Move Your Body’ from Johnny Gaddaar. The dance moves are memorable, the lyrics are catchy – we predict the song will be doing rounds during the wedding season circuit.

Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2's trailer is out and it looks even crazier than the last one

We see some familiar faces but also some new ones and you best believe it's grander and flashier than its prequel

We see some familiar faces but also some new ones and you best believe it's grander and flashier than its preque

Well, we guess the boys are back!

Jawani Phir Nahi Ani (JPNA) was was easily 2015's biggest hit; the movie broke all kinds of records at the box office so a sequel was only the logical next step.

Well, the trailer for JPNA2 is finally out and it promises to be a riot!

We spotted some familiar faces from the prequel: Humayun Saeed, Ahmed Ali Butt, Vasay Chaudhry, Sarwat Gilani and Uzma Khan are back. We've got some new faces in the fold as well, such as most notably Fahad Mustafa, Mawra Hocane (who's looking fly!), Kubra Khan and a few Indian actors too.

There were some genuine LOL moments in the trailer (still laughing over Fahad Mustafa saying "hashtag liar goals!") so we're excited for this one. Directed by Nadeem Baig, the flick hits cinemas on Eidul Azha.

The Load Wedding teaser

Fahad Mustafa takes us through the highs and lows of shaadi planning in the just-released teaser

5b3374361315a.jpg

The Na Maloom Afraad duo — director Nabeel Qureshi and producer Fiza Ali Meerza — just launched the teaser for their upcoming venture Load Wedding.

Featuring their Actor in Law couple, Fahad Mustafa and Mehwish Hayat, it looks like it'll be yet another crazy release.

The teaser has the same earthy vibe as Nabeel and Fiza's previous works (NMA, NMA2 and Actor in Law) but the teaser shows us more of a love story and judging from the film's name, and tag line "Marriage is an adventure, like going to war," we have a feeling we just might relate to this one. Shaadi fever guys... shaadi fever,

The director had claimed before that the film will be different from their previous work because it's a "different script, different genre altogether" and while we can't get much of that in the teaser, we're definitely interested in knowing more, although we have to say, not a fan of the titular song.

Load Wedding is slated for release on Eid-ul-Azha.
