Although I personally do prefer creation of smaller states, the way Telangana was agreed to is not only bad for local economy and vote bank politcs. Its also bad for the democratic governance in India. TRS ran a politcal platform on just the Telanagan state and didn't do that well.
Then why has the Congress agreed to it so suddenly just because of hoodlums creating havoc in the city? Offices and unis have been closed, police and para-military is all over the place and public property is being damaged. Is this the image we want to give to the people of India? That destroy enough property and create enough nuisance and GoI will listen. That fighting elections and following democratic norms does not matter. Congress has utterly failed to act in a proper manner to resolve this issue. I have been talking to the locals there and many of them although have no opinion for or against Telangana in hyderbad but are angry at the nuisance the protestors have created. Granted that there is a lot of support for it in the backward rural areas though. But there are more deserving candidates like in UP and Maharastra espicially.
Anyways, looks like with half the assembly resigning in protest, the Andhra and Rayalseema regions wont allow Greater Hyderabad to remain only Telangana's capital and recently they have started moves to declare Hyderbad as UT. Unfortunately it looks like AP is heading to a President's rule sitatuation, but that would be best to stabalise the ground situation so that business and schools, unis are not impacted further.
