My problem with this whole affair is that a self proclaimed modern secular state like Turkey pulls this cheap trick in 2020.If they would have left it a mosque since 1453 uninterrupted I would have had no issue.
Pretend like that is what happened and relax. You can still visit Ayasofya. There are no restrictions.
Why is a museum greater than a masjid? In one, the name of God is mentioned, in the other people walk and take pictures, which gives more sanctity to the building?
No one is asking Spain and Portugal, or even Greece, to change back churches into masajid. It is their country, their rules.
Muslims have the same prerogative.
