Modi's initiatives to make Hindi lingua franca

. .
Sadar is an offensive word to us now much like madrassi is to you. Please stop using it.

But it's such a catchy word.

Indians should learn from Chinese about being passionate to their national language.
Even though many half of China does not speak 'real Mandarin' :D

I support the thought though

PM makes a point about Hindi

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi Friday interacted with students across the nation for over an hour, he made it a point to respond to each question in Hindi, though many of these questions were posed in English from students from non-Hindi speaking regions in the south and northeast of the country.

While students from Imphal in Manipur, Tinsukia in Assam, Leh in Ladakh, Thiruvanamalai in Tamil Nadu and even a few schools in Delhi put their questions to the prime minister in English, Modi invariably responded in Hindi, with a few English words thrown in.

The interactive session between Modi and students across the country was held at Manekshaw Centre in Delhi Cantt. after Modi addressed the students on Teachers' Day.

The message was simple: Hindi is to be the lingua franca of this nationalist government, and not English as before. Even during his recent visit to Japan, Modi conversed and spoke largely in Hindi, responding in English only to elaborate a point.

In his interactions with visiting foreign leaders, Modi prefers Hindi, unlike previous prime ministers who switched to English to converse with foreign leaders. World over, interpreters are always present in conversations between heads of state and government, especially those who are not conversant with English.
Reading too much into PM Modi. He does not know good English. Better to speak in Hindi/Gujarati than making a fool of himself.

LOL what do you mean "real Mandarin"?

That means "Standard Mandarin", the accent you hear on Chinese TV and radio. Sort of like how BBC English or CNN English is the supposed neutral accent of British English and American English.

However there are many ways to speak Mandarin. None of them are wrong, they are just not standard.

Indians are not passionate towards a national language because India does not have a national language .

Anything from north to south, east to west of India is acceptable to me(Tamil, Telgu, Bangali, Assame, oriya, dogri, punjabi, manipuri etc)...... Centre gov should dedicate each year for regional langs one by one ..... Let everyone know others tounge else these Indian langs will not survive in coming days......
People should also have a respect India's diversity this is the only way we can move forward not otherway of entangling over langs cast religion region culture etc... All hails to India n Indians .....
English Ki Maa Ki aankh.....

Modi is proficient in Hindi, and is more comfortable in it, so i don't see a problem in it.

Marathi should be our National Language.
Hindi is full of $hit:-)
