Modi greeted with Bharat Mata Ki Jai slogans at World Sufi Forum
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was greeted by loud chants of Bharat Mata Ki Jai (Hail to the Mother India) at the inaugural World Sufi Forum in New Delhi today.
The greeting to the prime minister by a predominantly Muslim audience comes in the backdrop of a bitter row over the slogan, triggered by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's comment that the young generation should be taught to praise Mother India.
In protest, All India Muslim Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi said he cannot be forced to say Bharat Mata Ki Jai to prove his patriotism.
"I don't chant that slogan. What are you going to do, (Mohan) Bhagwat sahab," the Lok Sabha MP from Hyderabad said, adding "I won't utter that (slogan) even if you put a knife to my throat".
On Wednesday, MIM legislator Waris Pathan was suspended from the Maharashtra Assembly when he followed his boss and refused to raise the slogan in the House.
"We will say Jai Hind but not Bharat Mata Ki Jai as there was no compulsion on this nor did the Constitution say it," Pathan said in the Assembly after being asked by a Shiv Sena MLA to say it.

I am wondering if modi forced them to chant Bharat mata ki jai or by chanting it these sufis became any less Muslims
I am wondering if you will be accepting and respecting them as INDIANS now after they shouted this slogan and I am wondering if you would be expelling/suspending them if in near future they refuse to chant this slogan which BTW is unnecessary as anything .
And NOT chanting it does not make them any less Indian. So Hindu extremists need to review their own mentality regarding nationalism and anti-nationalism theories
