Oh is that why the only time these two had a dogfight it was the F-16 that was blown to smithereens??
The TuAF F-16 was on a training sortie, unarmed.
This game of mock dog-fighting had been going on for a while and when they met again, the Greeks fired in anger (something that had never been done before). In response, the entire Turkish Air Force sqn had to be relocated out of the region because they were out for blood and there would have been a major conflict had this not happened. Otherwise the Turks have had more than their fair share of mock victories over the HAF.
The Greeks themselves have commented that while Mirage-2000 is a good aircraft in certain missions, they like their F-16s better (resulting in a follow-up order of only the F-16 by the HAF).
This is not to say that the Mirage-2000 is not a good aircraft. Its an excellent platform and our Mirage ROSE aircraft would have a very tough time staying in the game with a Mirage 2000 if for nothing else than the TWR difference between the two platforms. As it is, the older Mirage is not a great dog-fighter but an excellent strike platform.
All those claiming Mirage 2000-MK-xx is superior to the F-16 should understand something basic. The variants of Mirage are customized orders for individual customers. There is no standard block with the Mirage 2000 and although they have talked about the dash 5 and dash 9 standards, in both cases, end-users funded the upgrades resulting in vastly different outcomes in terms of capabilities etc. So comparing something like a Mk-3 is a misnomer because it does not exist currently. Maybe when it becomes available, it would have capabilities that exceed that of the then F-16 block, but the point is that there is nothing like that in the works. Even the IAF ones will have capabilities in the league of the blk52s.
Many do not consider Mirage 2000 a true MR platform for various reasons. F-16 does not have this reputation.
