Mirage 2000-5 vs F16 Block 50+ Dogfight

Ok this video will give you how dog fight works! But if you carefully listen and apply mind you will infer that their is no way you can judge whether pilot has selected his canon from video only.

It is very easy to find out what weapons is selected. If you've ever been in a fighter aircraft or in a simulator you'll see that the HUD shows it all. In an F-16 the selected weapon is listed at the lower left corner. And two trailing lines with a circle on the HUD means cannon is selected, for the missile, the circle turns into a box, and when the lock has been achieved, the box turns into a box with a diagonal box in the center.

You can try watching some videos, I don't know if they are available or not, but you will notice that.

I just posted the video, the content, and title is not mine.

Btw, the jets don't need to be locked, The Mirage was trailing the F-16 for the whole time. He had his cannon selected, and cannons don't lock. Only missiles can be locked.

Uh, you'd better have a radar lock with guns selected if you want a valid gun pipper. Without it, the reticle is at a fixed range and inaccurate.

These videos mean little. They are made by editing and pasting scenes together. Also, I saw a lot of "waffling" rather than true defensive maneuvering by the fighters in the HUD.

They are put together to make ready-room films. Every unit has them.

And there isn't a mirage in the world that can touch a well-flown F-16. :azn:

F-16 Conflict News
Deadly 1996 Aegean clash is confirmed

May 22, 2003 (by Lieven Dewitte) - A former Turkish naval commander confirmed on Monday that a Greek warplane had shot down a Turkish F-16 fighter in the Aegean in 1996. The incident, which cost the life of one of the two Turkish pilots, Captain Nail Erdogan, was attributed to an accident at a time of heightened tension.

Greece and Turkey had nearly gone to war over the Imia islets in the eastern Aegean in January of that year.

Last week, a Greek news magazine, Krama, reported that the Turkish plane was hit during a dogfight between Greek and Turkish planes. The Greek pilot reportedly fired an air-to-air missile by mistakenly pressing his trigger button for too long while registering that he had got the better of his Turkish rival.

Yesterday, Ahmet Corekci (whom the Anatolia news agency described as "then naval forces commander" and the Agence France-Presse as "air force chief" at the time) confirmed the claim in comments to the liberal Turkish daily Milliyet. In a report headlined "Our plane was hit," Corekci said the Turkish F-16 was shot down by a Greek jet and that the "Greeks removed all the evidence," Anatolia reported.

Ankara should ask for compensation, Corekci said, according to the AFP, quoting from the same report.

The Turkish F-16 crashed during a training mission on October 8, 1996 in what Ankara said was international air space north of the Greek island of Samos, close to the Turkish mainland. One of the pilots managed to eject and was rescued by Greek forces but his co-pilot, Captain Nail Erdogan, was killed.

Greece has refused to confirm the report officially. "The Defense Ministry has not confirmed such an incident," government spokesman Christos Protopappas said yesterday. "At the time, a sworn inquiry was ordered, on the basis of regulations governing such incidents, and a report was filed. The shooting down of a Turkish aircraft was not confirmed. If the Turkish plane crashed because of a mechanical problem, this is something we do not know and can under no circumstances attribute to the Greek side," he said.

That is a very stupid thing to say.
Equal pilot? Whats that? and how do u come to that conclusion?
Just because F16 is american doesn't make it perfect.

I think what he means is comparing the planes on paper...Getting a kill does not mean the machine is better....b/w gud to see u back...where the hell you have been????

First things first. The title is misleading. The version of Mirage in the video is not 2000-5, but the regular Mirage 2000EG, which was the old Mirage 2000.

Secondly, the newer Mirage 2000-5 Mk II is clearly superior to F-16 block 50.

APG68 can sort Mirage out from long long distance away!

Please post facts, don't bullshyt.

Planes can not be compared on paper. A plane is benchmarked on its ability to gain a favorable edge over its adversary in a combat scenario. That includes using all unknowns/circumstances to its advantage.

There is no scope for an excuse. In this business Getting a kill is all that the scientists, engineers, trainers, pilots, maintenance crew put in their effort for. If it fails to achieve that, no amount of excuses can make up for that loss.

btw, I have been busy with other things in life. Some pretty dramatic times, lol. Still sorting it out.

Mate i am sure you would agree that because in one incident Mirage take down F-16 doesn't mean Mirage is a better platform than F-16...Now the best way to compare platforms is definitely real combat, thereafter friendly exercise and last but not the least comparing specs...

Now a rookie pilot on a F-22 might be responsible for it to be taken down by a F-15 but that does not mean F-15 is a better plane than F-22, right????

B/W IMHO Mirage is a very potent platform and saying F-16 is better on any given day would be too bold a statement to make...

I hope things went the way you wanted....welcome back
