You may have a point there, TL. But the placating is being done by the liberal Wash Po to tamp down any US public fear of China, hence to tamp down support for USA military spending. The spin of this article does not serve a right wing interest or a USA military-industrial-complex narrative at all. Articles that make out China to be a coming evil superman are what serves these interests. China as a bubbling incompetent serves the pacifist "left-wing". We will abandon the one-child policy once our population drop back to 1 billion as most of our baby boomers and elder population pass away.

In the next 100 years, i am pretty sure that China's population will shift between 1 - 1.6 billion, and no more or no less than that. We have a very efficient population control, unlike "The Democratic India".

I am pretty sure that India will try to invade our western territory as they can't control their exploding population in the next 50 years with only 1/3 of our land.

Well, well. Perhaps China, as the 21st century imperial power (after our bankruptcy) should also study USA immigration difficulties. The Indian invasion will most likely be in the form of illegal immigrants. As the native born Chinese become very rich, fat and lazy, like we Americans, the sneaky Indians will skip across the border and become your gardeners and construction workers. Pretty soon they will become members of the Communist Party as they will be the genuine "workers" of China. Wow! too bad I am so old and will not get to see China's decline, only its rise .....

Aren't these people still Christians with 50-75% of Southern European background? Even most White Americans have predominantly Western/Northern Europeans background, but it shouldn't have that level of xenophobia against the mestizo population. It is still better to have these people running your country than let say Asians.

The main worry of most Americans is that uncontrolled immigration will cause high unemployment and loss of standard of living through low wage competition. It is an economic fear of losing what we have. It is not a racial fear. There is an element of becoming a stranger in one's own land though in communities of a heavy influx of Latino illegals. Many Latino immigrants, especially ones who are illegal, do not integrate by learning English. When they concentrate in neighborhoods the existing people feel displaced as the culture shifts to Spanish signage and Latin American foods and customs.

Most White Americans still want to preserve racial heritage that's not really racism(neo-nazism). And they can still be nice with the colored people even they don't want to breed with them. But mestizo is likely to breed with the White American population, that's what most Americans fear of the ethnicity shift in the next few generation.

I am not racist, not even a racialist, but i am sure many of my countrymen can be racialist. I have no fear to admit that most Chinese want to keep their racial heritage, even that over 90% of the Oversea Chinese only breed with their own ethnicity.

Most of White Americans are still over 90% of European with the intraracial mix between Anglo-Scottish-Irish-German-Huguenot-Dutch. When it comes the interracial mix, their attitude might be different.
