Military strength is eluding China

Lol, why would an American be concerned of the Chinese military... unless, he's not white...

Apparently these american trolls have not head about WS-10A recently taking flight trials. Or "yellowing" china in press serves their purpose of boosting their economy.

Pass the hat around, by all means, if you can't make ends meet. Will be glad to throw in a paisa or two.

Do. It's for you, remember? Or is your inability to parse a simple piece of English beyond sections of text, down to even single sentences?

If the others see a contribution in there already, somebody might break down and chip in.

And if you need to break down a paragraph of text into bullet points in order to make comprehension easier, at least learn to transcribe accurately. There is an error in bullet number 3. Try again.

Nope.

That's what you wrote, that's what got paraphrased. Check again. As many times as you want, it won't shift around. The dumb went in early; QA doesn't fix it.

Try again.

Now, coming back to the subject, do you have anything valuable to add viz the article's overall thrust, i.e. military power is "eluding" China? If not, do you at least have something specific to say on WS-10A development which makes you believe that the development issues currently being encountered are anything but short-term? You do know that the WS-10A has already been flight tested... right?

Oh and by the way, the Chinese aren't developing one engine. Perhaps you can begin by at least familiarizing yourself with the list:

List of Chinese aircraft engines - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oh, yes, what I had to add was quality control, something which is absent in bucket shops masquerading as tech. centres. Your summary was completely meaningless; what were you thinking about? Or is that a tactless question to ask?

It was one engine because the article emphasised that one engine, and you mentioned the same engine. Nobody is questioning general Chinese ability to make a general purpose engine. I'm sure they can do outstanding engines in other areas, and have done.

It's not unusual to hear the Chinese themselves emphasise their ability to absorb and build on their absorbed technology, as I mentioned. It is unusual to hear others unquestioningly pass that along as scriptural truth. Fortunately, you will be investing in their 30 hour engines, so sayonara, as they say a few degrees further west, in a place where they did learn engines - early and well.

Lol, why would an American be concerned of the Chinese military... unless, he's not white...

WASHINGTON: US lawmakers today expressed serious concern over Chinese military buildup, which was agreed to by top officials of the Obama Administration at a Congressional hearing.

"I remain concerned by trends and ambiguities regarding China's military modernisation, including its missile buildup across from Taiwan and steady increase of its power projection capabilities," Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, Ike Skelton, said.

Skelton said the US must work together with China for settlement of conflicts and reductions of tensions that contribute to global and regional instability, including denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula, the Iranian nuclear issue, and the situation in South Asia.

He said China's military budget continues a trend of double-digit increases at a time when the country provides more and more loans that support the American economy.

"China's transparency on defence issues is still limited and questions remain regarding its strategic intentions. This was highlighted just days ago following China's concerning missile intercept event," he said.

Congressman Buck McKeon said while China has been cooperating with the US in a number of fields, one cannot ignore the reality that the country still falls short in the column of reassurance.

Actions speak louder than words, he said.

LMAO I am sure the US defense budget (offense budget) is really transparent

China is concerned by the trends and ambiguities regarding U.S's 3 carrier fleets armed with nuclear weapons near North Korea...

So U.S should not worry about china's military development. We can not build advanced weapons and we are seriously dependent on Russia.

- - - I dont see any eluding of Military Strength. The main point of article by the thread starter states that China cant get a grip on engine manufacturing. No problem.

No one should doubt Chinese tech. , I believe they will overcome this hurdle soon. .

- - - There is a difference between the way US works and the way Chinese work.

When the US comes to build a tech it calls experts from other countries as well. China on the other hand goes for its local working force . .

IMO article has highlighted the Achilles Heel of the Chinese Arms Industry. Durability and life of gas turbines; of which aircraft engines are an extreme examples; is to a large extent dependent upon how soon the thermal barriers coatings of the turbine blades wear out. These coatings are zirconium dioxide/ceramic compound and involve very sophisticated metallurgy.

USA, UK, France and Russia and the only countries that have the technical know-how to design and build reliable new aircraft engines. Other countries can only copy these engines. I have little doubt that China will eventually get there, but it will take time.

Would appreciate comments by an honorable member who has had experience with aircraft engine manufacture.

You do know that the WS-10A has already been flight tested... right?
FWS10 is the version on the J-11B being mass produced now. It is equivalent to Russian made AL-31F for the Su-27, Su-30MKK and J-11A.

FWS10A is the higher thrust version that will be mass produced in J-10 starting 2011. It is superior to the AL-31F, equivalent to 117S (AL-41F in Su-35BM), producing ~140 kN thrust.

China is now also mass producing its own gas turbines and turboprops. China's own 737-class airliner already has orders from customers. China's military heavy transport and heavy turbofan bomber will be in service within 3 years.

But the challenge for China is that an anti-ship ballistic missile is extremely hard to make. The Russians worked on one for decades and failed. The United States never tried, preferring to rely on cruise missiles and attack submarines to do the job of threatening an opposing navy.

U.S. satellites would detect an ASBM as soon as it was launched, providing a carrier enough warning to move several miles before the missile could reach its target. To hit a moving carrier, a U.S. government weapons specialist said, China's targeting systems would have to be "better than world-class."

Your better off with cruise missiles like Brahmos than ASBM

You appear quite an expert in begging and the tact used to solicit funds. Meray sadqay mein rakh lo! Tumhe baksha!

Nope.

You failed again. Wait until your tutor comes this evening, perhaps he can help you figure it out.

Too late to worry about tact now. That part of your early education seems to have been entirely missing. One can't blame you for that though.

Tut tut! No squirming and worming your way out of the hole you dug for yourself.

Yes, pass those deeply researched factoids around and plan your defences based on sortie rate assumptions that are computed with that 30 hour number. One can only hope whatever you are afflicted with is infectious and has somehow reduced the IAF planners' mental capabilities too.

hour engines, so sayonara, as they say a few degrees further west, in a place where they did learn engines - early and well.

Tsk tsk. Hit the history books. And oh.... Auf wiedersehen.

Exactly. Which is why I said that the issues cited do not merit the headline. Just at the recent 60th anniv parade, China unveiled more than 50 new weapon systems. The amount of weapon systems development happening in China atm is rather large, by any standards! And they are operationalizing these weapons and modernizing across the board. To say that military strength is "eluding" China in the face of all this evidence, is either indicative of an early onset of blindness, or fairly transparent chest thumping to placate the intended audience .

Funny, those western experts also say that China is a threat, yet claiming that she can't even make a proper jet engine?

I wonder why there are so many logical contradictions and fallacies among those western experts?

Another racist, I guess. A Canadienne one at that ......
