While conceding that Pakistan-based terror outfits like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen were still operating in Jammu and Kashmir, state police on Thursday said there has been a drop of 50 per cent in terrorist’s violence in first three months of the year.

"This year we have 50 per cent drop in the terrorist’s violence as compared to the last year. Last year, as you know, we had 47 per cent drop in violence," Director General of Police (DGP) Kuldeep Khoda said.
Khoda was talking to reporters on the sidelines of launch of postal stamp in Jammu.

"So with the type of operation, with the type of alertness displayed by the police and other security forces who are working in close co-ordination and very high level of synergy, the terrorism level will come down fast. And we have to maintain that," Khoda said.

"In spite of the presence of Pakistan-based militant outfits such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen in the state, there was considerable dip in violence", he said.

The DGP said "We have roughly under 200 terrorists in the state at the moment. The Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen- they are two major outfits, which are still here, operating. Though the number of incidents has come down."

The success we have achieved is due to coordinated efforts of the police and the security forces, DGP said.

. .
security forces have broken the back of militancy in J&K. now there are few left in the state hiding here & there only to meet their destiny today or tomorrow.

. .
Now Kashmir's youth know what they want.. lots of them are getting gr8 opportunities in government jobs and tourism sector is blooming there..
Even they know gun is not solution and they stop going to terrorist camps in other side of border... They know what is happening on other side of border .. it was chaos in many part of their country and 10s of 1000s people were living in IDP camps .... good going Kashmir.. I am planning visit on my next India trip ......

Terrorism in J&K is no where near to where it was in the 90s.Thanks to the sacrifices made by the men in uniform.I hope politicians are not allowed to interfare and the security forces can kill the cancer from its root.

It was a bad policy in the earlier days, that INDIA ignored Kashmir and as a result some youth joined the wrong hand as they thought there is nothing to loose on their part. Now INDIA is doing a lot in Kashmir, opening schools, shopes, economic development, job oppertunity and the because all of this are giving to the Kashmiris, now they have some thing to lose if they fight against IA, so ultimatly winning the locals is not by force but by favouring them with prosperity that they will not fight to lose the comfort they get.

I think we are not giving enough credit to pakistan for turning the terror tap off.

15 years ago it was dangerous to be walking on the streets of Sopore or Kupwara now it has been come relatively safer whereas the rest of Kashmir is peaceful only the Kashmir valley experiences militancy and incidents in the valley have even been brought down most militants die when they try infiltrating into J&K from Pakistan only these ~200 rats are left and even their days are numbered.

.
The credit goes to Indian Govt and Armed forces.

But we should not forget to say, Thanks Pakistan.

With the help of Pakistan, the militancy in J & K has reduced. The militant camps in *** have been dismantled or lying low at moment by pressure of Govt of Pakistan and Military.

Last year 47% reduction and 50% reduction in current year.

So in two years, 75% reduction in militancy in J & K.

No , I will give credit to Kashmiri people most as they understand what is correct and out Army and Police who are putting their life on edge so every one else can stay peacefully in Kashmir and rest of India can travel there.
By looking at comments and mentality on PDF by educated Pakistanis I don't think they still consider it is as terrorism but a holy and rightful fight to kill innocents if they are Indians ...

This is the best time to repeal AFSPA, send army to peacetime location and let JK police handle situation.
JK police has become good in counter terrorism, and it should be the main fighting force, just like punjab police.

Army has done its job, the next step should be done by politicians and police.

Pakistani state and pakistanis on PDF are different entities. Pakistans current ruling elite want negotiated settlement.

perhaps this is what happens when you take the fight to the enemy, rather than meekly defending your own territory.

a welcome development nonetheless
